Whether you liked Cdale or not, this sucks. Several people in my extended family work there.

I had two Cannondales and loved them both. It is sad to know that what was once a US factory with workers who took pride in what they built will be moved to a sweatshop and built by people that don't give a crap.

I don't personally know anyone works there, but several years ago I took a tour of the place and everyone was super nice and willing to talk about what they were doing.

No, this has very little to do with US government. The company is now owned by a larger French Canadian company. This would have happened no matter the economy.

It used to be an honor to work there. They paid well, took care of employees, and were innovative. My cousin was a fab guru in the R&D department. I put my hands on some toys that were never available to John Q Public. Remember the 70mm Fatty Ultra? I had an 80mm version on my F2000. I had a SV2000 with a Lefty and <gasp!> CODA discs that worked perfect. I should have kept both of them.

That damned motorcycle and quad put them under.

One of the reasons I didnt buy a Cannondale, its sad to see their line go to crap, especially since they started here. Chalk another one up for big business!

They started having bikes made over seas before dorel bought them. A lot of their carbon road bikes and every bike under about $6 or 700 was made over seas for the last few years. Dorel is just upping the ante. OSHA has a bit to do with it, the standards over seas are a lot less strict, therefore it is less expensive.

I always thought cannondale was a good company to deal with. when i worked at the bike shop that carried cannondale we had a customer come in who was hit by a car on his bike. the frame looked like a pretzel and it cracked on a weld. Cannondale set him up with a new frame free of charge. apparently getting hit by a car does not void their frame replacement warranty

I worked at the same shop as Brent for a long time. Couldn't say enough good about C-dale. They would even send out warranty clothes if it riped or tore in an untimely manner. I raced on a 'dale for a couple of years and loved it. Sad to see them leave.

I still have a Cannondale M400 which I bought back in 92-93. Still ride it, still have the Rock Shox Mag 20's on it.
I was looking to buy a new bike too. Guess I can cross them off my list. Santa Cruz still made here in the US?

That sucks to hear. I've have three Cannondales over the years. They were my favorite bikes. The only other bike I have had that compared was my K2.

Yea, Trek, even though they are the big evil corp, are pretty cool in that they keep a fair bit of their production over here.
