View Full Version : Project: JK (Re)Build needs your help!!
so i've had this thing for a little while, and i hate to link to another forum ... but there's too much info and pics to try and start a new one here ...

but i need your help PGH!! i just moved here not too long ago, and i'm doing this build in my fathers garage. i've painted before, but no longer have an air compressor for my guns, and dad doesn't like the idea of me painting in basically the basement of the house.
if anyone out there is a paint guy and would like to lend a hand, i'd love an eye who knows what they are doing! i've spent just about every cent i've made on this rebuild, but if anyone else wants to join in and hang out, i'd bring beer and steaks for all! of course i'd pay for all materials, and all body work will be done before hand.
let me know what ya think of the build to!

Have those burnt pieces sandblasted. If not you will never be happy. It will rust for sure. And sandblasting is not even a def for stopping it.

yeah, that was my plan. i have a decent pressure tank blaster that i can use, and i'll put a good rust primer over it like a chassis saver paint or something. then primer and paint.
its not so much the prep work that i'm worried about, its the final spraying ...

the door that was burned is going to look like crap IMHO.. from the heat from the fire and sandblasting is going to be warped .if i did use it id never paint it black ..
other than that it looks goods ..whats your time frame from having it ready for paint ?? if you could get it down to Elizabeth i could paint possibaby spray it for you

my thought on the blasting was to only blast in the seams and use sand paper by hand or other for the rest. i've blasted a 69 cuda hood and that didn't turn out so nice when i was done ... good thing i was just a lowly minion at the shop only doing what i was told. plus these parts will only be a long term temporary fix. once the prices come down in a few years i'll toss new parts on it, or once i find good used ones in the color i need. i also have soft doors already for it for a reason.
as for a time frame, if things go somewhat to plan, i should be ready for paint 2nd or 3rd week of july. my goal is to have this thing totally done (without new wheels/tires) before the end of july. what kind of set-up do you have for paint?
actually ... is there anywhere around here that will dip the parts clean?
