I'm thinking of welding my spiders on my 00 XJ's 8.25 but still street drive about 3k mi./yr. Just wanted some input on how bad is it to drive the thing if I did this?

My 4runner has been welded for a long time and I drive it to the trails but it is not a DD. It doesn't bother me but it will wear tires and may weaken the shafts by the constant fatigue.

Thanx, I think I might go ahead and weld'em Idon't drive it enough to worry about tire wear.

It's a pain to park, because your turning radius sucks on pavement, but for only 3k mi a year, do it.

I welded my 8.25 29spl about 6 months ago and have had no breakages. I have driven about 15 miles on the road so far , it did hurt the turning radius. It hops and squeals the inner tire when you turn . Weld it and forget it , I used a 300 amp stick welder at work

If you run a higher tire pressure it will make street driving a welded rear much quieter.

My nieghbor is trying to talk me into a mini spool. he thinks it might be easier on the axles, but I don't really see the difference other then the $50 I'd spend on the spool.

It will have the same effect on your axles, locking them together.

The only difference is that the mini spool will break your crosspin at the worst possible time.

Yeah, didn't think about that. I think I'm just going to weld it and keep the fifty in my pocket. Thanks

I dont think they even make a mini spool for the 8.25 anyway

I had my d35 welded and beatin to death and had no luck breaking it on 33's, When you are use to wheeling and open and then you hit the trails with it welded you expect to get stuck but instead your like wow that was to easy,

I'm going to have them welded before the next trip out.
