Okay this isn't going to be a pretty Jeep because it's going to be built to wheel not to drive everyday.

So far plans are:

Cj7 frame
Cj7 front clip
YJ tub
Fuel injected V6 4.3 Vortec out of a 94 blazer
Dana 30/35 (untill i can get some 60's but that has to wait) I have sitting around
YJ springs sprung over
35's
tranny/xfer case still undecided we'll see what i have and what i can get. I'll probably go to the junkyard and get a 4 speed out of a 88-99 chevy 4wd so i can take the xfer case too.

It's not going to be something huge or really anything special but it's going to be mean offroad, the only thing it need to be! I'm going to be starting at Penn State fayette on the 20th so that's going to hinder progress but i'd like to have this done in a month or so. I'm going to be documenting progress on here the entire time. Wish me luck.

Here's some pics from today.

This is the frame doner. Helps to have a buddy that will get you a frame for free :D

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa311/mxer513/Project%20low%20slow%20and%20cheap/0813091711.jpg

After everything was cut out we flipped it over to get the body mounts off.

And yes i pulled the frame off with the tow hook on my VW. My TJ is still missing a driveshaft from the roadtrip to Canfield for the show when it came flying apart on the highway at 70mph because napa didn't balance it.

Well here's some progress from today.

Went to pick up my Blazer (with the vortec 4.3) from a buddies house (where it died)

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa311/mxer513/Project%20low%20slow%20and%20cheap/814097.jpg

Got it onto another buddies trailer.

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa311/mxer513/Project%20low%20slow%20and%20cheap/814096.jpg

And since i don't have a bobcat we chained it to a tree and drug it off the trailer.

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa311/mxer513/Project%20low%20slow%20and%20cheap/814095.jpg

And then went for a ride in it.

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa311/mxer513/Project%20low%20slow%20and%20cheap/814094.jpg

I got my cage, tub, and axles all in one place and ready for the project.

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa311/mxer513/Project%20low%20slow%20and%20cheap/814092.jpg

And then started tearing into the blazer.

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa311/mxer513/Project%20low%20slow%20and%20cheap/814093.jpg

I'm shooting for a rolling chassis by monday night. I have to go to the junkyard tomorrow to find some leaf springs, a tranny, and a xfer case. And i'm going to stop by tractor supply and pick me up a Hobart 187 i think :D

a good welder can make a harbor freight welder weld good...and a shitty welder can make a top of the line miller 350 weld like horse shit....i honestly believe its 90% the person welding and 10% the welder

seems like a good project except the axles ..they are going to be broken before you get out of the yard running 35s ..what a waste of time IMHO ..go geta set of junkyard 44s or something

ridgerunner97
08-15-2009, 10:55 AM
Idk what dana 44s are goin for but ive found a bunch of different ones out of different vehicles, even a scouts would probably fit width wise pretty good. Here is a link to the search site of all the junkyards in the universe or at least that post on the site lol. Ive used this to find tons of parts for different vehicles we've worked on, makes it easy to figure out who has shit and where it is.

i've said it before but i dunno if everyone knows...you can find a dana 44 out of a rodeo or a honda pilot (i think its a pilot anyway) dirt cheap...and the newer ones even have discs in the rear

And got the motor and harness and everything that i'm going to need for the motor swap out.

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa311/mxer513/Project%20low%20slow%20and%20cheap/815092.jpg

I need some motor mounts that adapt a CJ7 frame and a Vortec V6 now.
