I could totally see their "kill switch" bringing down private networks constantly.

Can you tell how much I trust the government to do a good job of anything?

By the time they realize it's an "emergency situation" it's likely too late anyways. I'm guessing that this stemmed from the people that say that our next major terrorist attack (or WW3) is going to happen in cyberspace attacking our infrastructure (i.e. the power grid, traffic control, etc.).

Giving him control to cut off the gov't network from the Internets accomplishes the same thing.

Since when is everyone pluralizing Internet? It defeats the term, although it was amusing at first - when did it become standards?

I think someone has watched the new(er) Die Hard movie too many times.

Or Terminator 3?

Gizmodo (http://gizmodo.com/5350719/president-obama-isnt-actually-trying-to-hijack-the-entire-internet) article. This shows some of the jargon in the bill.

As Thompson notes, nothing scary is granted here, and the President definitely hasn't been authorized to take over private networks, for malign ends, for fun, or otherwise.

I dont agree with it and Im sure it would get abused at some point. Though Im pretty surprised it hasnt been done already.

I thought that's where it came from, I just never thought it'd stick around this long, LOL. My favorite was the "The Internet is a series of tubes" - the ignorance was just amazing...

Yeah I keep slowly adding more web lingo to my typing repertoire. It's sad that I've been noticing myself succumbing to it more recently.

Can you imagine if somone tried to explain "how it all works" as a response to one of his questions, and busted out binary? His head might have exploded.
