Since we have had so many welding picture threads might as well have a single big one.

The prize for the best welds.......bragging rights.

Starting the lower arm frame-side brackets on the YJ

1st pass tying the .025 into the 0.1875 Frame Plate (Gets another pass to tie that into the frame itself)

7' piece of 1" thick high carbon for a case skid steer tooth bar
victor torch, which the school had only a 00 tip for, which required a rose bud to pre-heat it (couldn't hold the rosebud and take the pic at the same time)

deathblade, try cleanin up your workpieces a little more, i'd use a grinder, or even a wire wheel... all that silicon on your bead (the crusty brown shit), is impurities that youre burning up in the puddle... other than that, not too shabby :thumbsup:

they look nice! but they seem a little cold to me...dont seem like its burning deep enough which shouldnt be a problem with that machine. good lookin stuff though man!

Yeah, I think you're right.....shoulda wicked up the heat a little more. I'm still learning as I go. Been quite a while since I've done much welding.

the technique of the weld looks very neat though! its always better to be a little hot rather than cold


oh and that is a sexual welder ya got there!

before you burn in those d-ring mounts, preheat them to around 300 degrees, since they're quite a bit thicker than the bumper....it'll also prevent subsurface cracking from the thicker material soaking up the heat and cooling that side of the weld.... its basically like quenching a hot weld...

some tig welding from work... 274 gallon fuel tank for a CAT C15 powered Ingersoll-Rand air compressor for a drill at work...compressor puts out 1300 CFM @ 350 psi, all day long... $100k just for the compressor, we have 2 haha

and yes, every weld was done ONE TIME, using filler wire and NO I DID NOT go back over the welds to "smooth" them out...and yes I was walking the cup, no reason to freehand it... plus it only took about a minute and a half to do the 2 4" pipes and the smaller ones, the 2", were an absolute PITA since they're about 1-1/2" apart
