Sweet....you've just created a B52 bomber for the street :overkill:

Seriously though, you'll like the tires. They are loud and will make your jeep ride like a tank, but you shouldnt have any problems getting through the mucky trails of western PA.

i love the look of meaty tires on stock wheels, looks good, i wish i could afford some LTBs for the blazer, put em on on of my 3 sets of rims. youve got a really clean xj

Thanx guys, and yeah it sounds like a fawkin jet goin down the street. At about 55-60mph its a bit tough to keep it between the lines haha. These babies are not for the faint hearted haha. I'm glad i got a set of rims just for them and can swap em on and off for wheelin, otherwise they would blow.

ran 33 12.50 on stock 30 and 8 1/4 with an aussie upfront. only brakoe one shaft upfront and that was from being really stupid. so dependng on your driving i "think" you'll be fine

you think ltb's are loud. I drive boggers on street (well when my jeep runs) I have 2.25 dual exhaust with cherry bombs and my tires drown out exhaust

ridgerunner97
10-04-2009, 08:48 PM
Haha i was in a guy i knows K5 with a 383 stroker chevy with open headers and boggers, they are loud as hell haha you could hear em whine over the engine LOL. They are the only way to go if the goin is gooey!

Your nuts my boss and I regularly get 30,000 miles out of claws. And we have many other customers that do the same

I'm not nuts. I didn't buy em new though, and then never had em balanced, and also need and alignment,... maybe I am nuts for wasting good rubber like that,.

nevertheless they evaporated.

I did the same thing on my ZJ. 2 hours is about all I could bear on the road with them. I still had my ATs that I used for longer wheeling trips and swapped on the swampers when I got to the trails.

Going from ATs to LTBs, it was literally almost like getting lockers. I loved those tires. Air them down to about 15, and they grip/deform really well on rock, too. Expect the lugs to get all chunked up, but it's not going to affect anything.

Cool, you never had a problem with losing a bead or spinning the tire on the rim @ 15psi? I normally drop em to like 23-25psi to be safe. And i'm really anxious to see what they do tomorrow in WV at rocktoberfest, should be an absolute swamp, maybe i'll have to call 911 like the little kiddies from Luzerne LOL!!!!

Cant imagine why they wore out so quickly.

limegreentj
10-09-2009, 05:14 PM
lol that wont cause a tire to wear quickly

i've neglected tires in the past, but they were never tires as expensive as claws or swampers or something....if you have a nice set of tires, why not take care of them?

Well that's not the tire's fault!!!! Claws will outlast swampers on the road any day. Swampers are great offroad tires but drive and wear for shit on the road. When I get new tires they will most Likely be swampers because by then the jeep will be a trailor rig. But when I bought the claws it was my dd so I needed a little balance between on and off road. IMO that's where the claw is best. They wear great and have decent road maners. But they still perform very respectable offroad. Their down fall is they use a Polly sidewall which are a little thin. But without those sidewalls they would not have the road maners that they do. Like I said it's a trade off.

If there is one thing I have learned about modifying vehicles and Jeeps in general LOL, is there is always a drawback to something! So you guys that are runnin claws you aren't having any trouble with em offroad? I had like three guys i know tell me they sucked offroad and i can vouch for one of the guys claws not performing well. In the mud they weren't that great at all, not as good as they looked like they should do. They were okay behaviour wise on the hardtop, but didn't wear very well. I have heard though that some of the guys that mud bog down south are cutting out every other lug on the claws and they are insane in the mud bogs, never seen one in action but would probably kick ass.

Looks good, you will probably start seeing baseball size clumps of mud showing up on your hood and roof now for some reason. I love my swampers but I never had any other type of mud tire to compare.

tjblair
10-09-2009, 09:33 PM
The only issue I have had with the the claws has been the sidewalls I've cut two. Both were repaired and still go fine I have never had any problems in the mud at all. I've never heard of guys cutting them for mud bogs. But I have seen lots of guys run them backwards. Can't tell you how they go that way (never tried it) but I had to run one backwards once when I cut a tire and I can tell you they are screaming loud on the road when run backwards.

Nope. They were on 15x8s, so the narrower rim acted as a "poor mans beadlock". The tires are relatively stiff from the thick sidewall and big lugs, so that definitely helps at lower pressures. Then I got a set of Staun beadlocks through a buddy for a good deal and never had a problem since then. For my ZJ, there wasn't much noticeable ground clearance loss down to 15 lbs. Even with the beadlocks I didn't run below 15 since I was already at a ground clearance disadvantage.

Actually, some of my friends on 31s wheeled with less than 15 psi for longer than I did without beadlocks and never had a problem. IIRC, that doesn't really become a problem until you get into the single digits with a narrow wheel anyways.

That is awesome, thats what i'm running an 8 inch rim. I'll give it a shot tomorrow LOL, hope youre right :023: Hey Jeff, I'm glad i'm not the only one who thought it would be beneficial to run the claw backwards, figured it would dig like a monster scoop. I can only imagine how that sounded on the hardtop.

my buddy was running 8-10 psi on his 34" ltb's on an 8" wheel with no problems. I run 6-8 in my boggers on either an 8 or a 10" wheel. Never had a problem

Thanks Rudy, I worked em pretty hard yesterday and without em I'd have been in trouble, with those tires I made sum hills that people were gettin winched on. It was like gettin a set of lockers. I should have listened to Mykal though and aired down even more than i did, but on that note they are an awesome tire.

Those tires look sweet on your rig. I've always liked the LTB's from the very first day i put em on my TJ. Now I run em on my XJ too. :icon_keel:

You are right about them sounding like a jet. I can't hear for shi$ but I can hear these tires screaming at 55!

A little advice, these are very slippy on snow or slushy roads, due to lack of siping but you'll get a hang of em.

Yeah maybe. I removed the lower center piece and then it looked funny so i trimmed the bumper caps to match.

Did you just eyeball a straight edge around the end caps or did you measure them out? Just curious, cuz it looks really good and clean which is what i'm shooting for on mine.

I took em off and drew an imaginary line and cut with a small black and decker sawzall. It's not perfect if you look at it inches away but looks ok from afar.
