Typical 1992 (I think its 92) Cherokee. 4link up front, leafs in the rear. 4.5" lift, HP44 with a Lock-Right and a 9in with a mini spool. Short arms made by me. It also likes to break front shafts, and usually the ball joints at the same time. I have broken I believe 10 front shafts in the last 2 years. Not gonna go alloy. I SHOULD have a HP60 on the way and some 38s. Prolly gonna long arm it when I do it.

So... Its been around the block a few times. I need to give it some love this winter. I was gonna build a full blown tube rig but decided I had way too many projects. So a lot of the parts I been saving are going on the XJ.

I'll find out tonight if I'm getting the 60 now or later. Then after the 26th it will be torn down for the swap. Got some half tread 38s for now. Gonna do the Aetna cut on them.

So I bought a HP60... Got a rear 60 and 38s etc... Dont know where there going. I might build a YJ and leave this as is. It works and makes a great family wheeler.

Hey Joe :039: I finally see some good pictures of your xj in action. I think you need to abuse it more, it's too clean.

If you would get over the principle of it that seems to bother you & put some 4340 shafts & joints in that XJ's front end it would be reliable as sin I'd bet.

But hey, I only beat the hell outta mine with that same setup & 38.5" Boggers, what would I know? :003:

do you mean 4340 shafts for a d 30? I would like to upgrade my 30 shafts n at and don't really know where to look for good cheap side shafts.. you can pm if you got some good imput so as not to hijack this thread completely.

Not a D30, he's got a full width HP D44 under there.

As for the D30, the stock shafts are actually pretty strong & reliable for 33-35" tires if you either grind the ears out to accept full circle clips or tack weld the caps on a good set of joints (something like 371 Precisions, Spicer 760's, or Alloy USA joints)

I was told the 30 would handle 33 at most,, but your info is encouraging..

By the time I dump the neccessary $$$ on alloys I could build a D60 and be on 39.5s. I agree the 44 isnt all that bad. That is why this axle is staying under the XJ and getting 4340s and being my family wheeler. My daughter loves wheelin' so much now that its hard not to take her. I'm putting the YJ back together with the 60s and either 39.5s or 42s. Whatever I find at a decent price. 42" SX's would be sweet :)
