I've built quite a few. the most simple way, without tube or anything is get 1/8 or 3/16 thick 3x3 angle iron, cut 60* angles into it, drill some holes in it and bolt it on to the tub.
here is a set im working on now, shitty cell pic. if you have any questions you can pm me.

mine on my cj are 2"x6" 3/16's plate. then I welded a piece of 1 1/2" square tube the length of the rocker. I like the way they look and they have definately saved my rockers.

2 inches under the jeep to protect that little ledge and six inches up covers the rocker. I just ground the ends down to match my fender openings. The square tube is welded at the bottom of the L Like right here >L

yep...krod is right...measure it and make a cardboard template....its around a 60* angle on the flares...meaning that the ends of the rocker guards will need cut at a 60 degree....if you are going 6 inches up the tub it should be 52 and some odd inches (i cant remember) and 46 and some odd inches...around there anyway...i think...lol i cant remeber

1/4 is overkill. 3/16 is just right.

3/16 is good for the tub mount guards, 1/8 inch tube is plenty strong though

agreed thats what I was talking about the plates that bolt to the tub. .120 wall tube is good but can still be dented, I've done it.
Edit: I meant pipe not tube. I have yet to dent tube. Sch 40 is fairly easy to dent.
