Well, with the BeaveRun Halloween night ride coming up, I figured it'd be nice to have some more light for the rear of the Jeep.
I didn't want to mount lights on the bumper, incase I got into some deeper water. Thought about on top of the tail lights, but that wouldn't work on the right side when the tailgate was opened.
This was what I came up with. It's temporary for now, until I figure out a less redneck way to mount them....

Why not epoxy them to the rear tail light, or pull the lens, and drill through.

Yeah, this was a last minute, use what I had, wish I had more, this will work for now kinda job.

I kinda thought about mounting them in the tail lights, that would certainly send plenty of light back but not sure how much would shine down then.

With them up high and pointing down, they work really well.....

(excuse the fuzzy pics, used my keep it in the Jeep, oh well if something happens to it camera)

Just stock back-ups...

They're not quite as blinding when standing behind the Jeep as they look in the pic.

They were originally yellow fog lights. But....the bulb is a sealed unit with yellow tint inside it. I didn't want that, so I went to Lowes and picked up a couple replacment bulbs for landscape lighting that fit perfect. Although, I wasn't expecting them to be all that bright because they're only 20 watts. I think what helps is the lens (seperate part from the bulb) is like those projecting headlights, a magnifier.

Overall I'm happy with how well they light up the rear. Just gotta run some wire to the switch.
Might hook 'em up so i can have just one light lit, or both. We'll see.

Lookin good!!! I think that is the perfect placement for those. Just need to secure them better and you're all set.

To mount them, can you get into the housing and just bolt them on there?

Looks good man. I need more lighting too...i can barely see out the back glass on my truck since I have a topper with tinted windows. Thinking bout getting little fog lights and just mounting them underneath the bumper.

I'm probably going to just use sheet metal screws and screw them to the top of the 3rd brakelight. Just didn't want to put holes in there until I give them a run on the trails to be sure this is where I want to mount them.

Thanks.
Only trouble I see with mounting them below the bumper (or down low anywhere) is the likelyhood of knocking them off on the trails, or shorting them out or filling them with water when in deeper water/mud puddles.

I been diggin the LED super small light at advance. I may up grade my rock light to them. Should be able to chain 6 lights together and not draw any more power that one set of reg lights.

I saw they were on sale about a month ago. I picked up 2 pairs to use as rock lights, I just haven't installed them yet. They do put out a decent amount of light.
