Alot of you guys have already seen the thing, here is the story of how it came to be. After having a daily driver scout my buddy and I decided we wanted to build a trail scout. The plan was SOA, 35s and that was about it lol. Didnt have alot of money but my cousin told me about a guy gettin rid of 3 scouts for free so we dragged em home.

This is the Scout the day we brought it home :

http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/Weetz454/n25805653_30406122_4366-1.jpg

The body was absolutley shot so we took care of the important stuff first, lifting it. This is before we changed the steering lol.

http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/Weetz454/114_1435-1.jpg

Than on to the body work we grabbed quarters off another scout I had only problem was it was the shorter one so we needed another 18 inches, lol.

Donor Scout:

I saw Ridgerunner updated his so I figured I would as well.

I have been lazy but in the last few months or so I have added: Front and rear lockers, power steering cooler, upgraded wiring, and new gas tank and skid plate.

Hopefully this winter ill get some more parts together and the Scout will become fuel injected, as well as some maintenance issues that are popping up will be taken care of.

Let me know if interested, PM or email me back.

I am sure that Moon can help you out somehow regarding a manual for Combat Mission.

For a spammer, he fits in here, throwing every thread off topic and making no sense at all

Its only fitting that a thread I start about scouts gets derailed because of a spammer.

Welp did some more work to it. The floors where getting pretty awful so I ripped out the interior expecting the worse. Luckily they where not too bad.
Here is the floors stripped. I had to scoop mud out with a putty knife, the stuff was everywhere.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/Weetz454/IMAG0029.jpg

I coated everything that had rusted with 2 part PPG epoxy mastic. Stuff is pretty tough.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/Weetz454/IMAG0058.jpg

Than I coated it all with Rustoleum truck coat, hopefully this will keep the rust monster at bay for a few more years.

Another upgrade that needed done was getting rid of that damn liftgate. If any of you had wheeled with me you probably remember the lift gate flying open during the worst possible time. I lost more damn tools that way. Anyway I tried like hell to get the gate to stay shut but it was pointess. So I swapped it out to a tailgate instead. Big improvement, plus it had to be done if I planned on wheeling with no top.

Freakin love it! I can't wait to see this thing on the trail without a top.

Steve, do you remember how many gallons of the green you used to spray it? I'm just trying to get an idea.

Super Scout
03-11-2012, 02:35 PM
I used less than one gallon. Maybe half I have it in the basement i'll have to look. I used Sherwin Williams Sher khem, it covered really really well.

Stopped by to check this thing out today, the tailgate is a killer improvement and the thing looks menacing with no top and just a cage pokin out. Gonna be a good summer of wheelin!

Nah, nothing yet. I got my steering box put back together. I gotta make up some plates to reinforce the frame. Once those are welded on I have to put the steering back together, attach a rocker.
Also picked up a complete GM TBI system. Just need a few more parts and it will be fuel injection time...

Super Scout

Finally got some more work done on the Scout, been busy as hell with other stuff. The only real weak spot on a Scout frame is the steering box, mine had not cracked yet but I plated it anyway. I also added a waggy pitman arm, so it should make steering easier.

So back at it had to replace my drivers side rocker:
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/Weetz454/IMAG0334.jpg

The rear frame was rusted pretty bad, so I got some plate and welded it up... Hopefully it holds.

I also replaced all the brakes, hardware and axle seals. Hopefully it will be back on the road this week.

HAHAHA this rotted away.

Well you could do like I did...and plate the whole damn frame for no other reason than the fact that you're new and think more is better. Less is more! lol

The scout is looking good man. Its gona be a lot of fun with the top off.
