Now I need to get the front Diff housing. Also planning on a Trail Gear 3" IFS eliminator kit with a trail gear 4" rear lift. Plan on 4.88 gears with both the front and rear locked with 33's for the street and 35's for the trail. I have a lot of work to do and will be a slow build. If anyone has any extra parts laying around please let me know.

Also plan on fixing the interior. Getting a CB and fixing the body up better. Want to get front and rear bumpers, thinking either all-pro or addictied off road. And getting LC headers and a better exhaust system.

Thanks for looking I will keep you all updates any suggestions are welcomed! I will also let all you Butler guys and gals know when I get my trails cut!

Looks good. Nice to see some more first gen Runners on here (aka my dream truck)

Cebby on here is a Trail Gear vendor. If you plan on going that route, I'd definitely hit him up first for prices!

That sucks. We all know how work is... that is why it is a 4 letter word. I wish I was one of those guys who loves his job but it isn't so.

Wheeling? What is that? It's been so long I forgot about it.

Nice runner you got there. Loks like your off to a good start. Great platform to start off of. Glad to see more yotas around. Ive been runnin these pickups n 4runners for years. Unfortinatly my dd 87 4runner blowed a head gasket after all the abuse its been threw with over 200,000 miles on it. I'm thinkin of swappin in a 7mge anyhow. If your lookin for any parts, pm me I may have what you need.

Since I'm not working on mine until I get heat in my garage, I might as well subscribe to this thread... :)

...and yes, I'd love to help with the Trail Gear stuff for you. I need to do some volume in 2010 to keep the line. PM me what you want prices on and I'll get numbers to you - I will beat Trail Gear's advertised price.

So I have been thinking about all I want to do to this Runner. I am leading towards an expedition style or search and rescue theme. Still doing the SAS and making it capable of going anywhere, but also able to survive for 7 days in the woods.

Not sure. Any thoughts on this?

I am going to make a build list with everything I want to do this upcoming week. I will let you all know my plans and get your ideas as well as opinions.

So i think I have my list started, never done, will it ever be done?

-SAS 3" front and 4" rear lift
-35" IROK tires
-front and rear bumpers
-winch
-on board air
-front and rear lockers
-sliders
-body protection
-roof rack
-lights front, rear, and under body
-fridge
-cb with 4' whip
-gps
-hi-lift jack
-shovel and ax
-roof top tent
-beadlock wheels

Will add more and get pics as this build goes on. I should be getting ready to start re-gearing the front and rear next month. Going with 5.29's. Not sure what lockers yet. I think I am going with electric. What do you guys think is the best locker set-up?

For body protection, roof rack, and RTT, ever think about doing an exo jungle gym?

i'm pretty sure i've seen 1st gen runners with em that still have the factory top. just give it enough room to pull it off. that way you can have your cargo and RTT on if you decide to go out for a weekend without your top on.

Not a big fan of the big jungle gym look. Like the racks and smaller body protection. Also thinking about making an off-road trailer as well. I like the internal cage from 4xinovations. I will make it so the roof rack can mount the the internal cage as well. Still in the designing and buying everything stage. I am sure I will change things a million times through the process. I have been reading alot about expo vehicles on TTORA and the trailer route is nice. I think I can put a lot more in the trailer than the rig for survival and can leave the trailer at camp while I play.

Thanks for your thoughts. All of this is helpful with making the decison on what to do.

I was able to trade my housing for a complete front axle. Last night I tore it all down and started the cut up and cleanup. I have everything apart except the hubs and brakes and knuckles.
I need to take it to my father-in-laws to get the hubs and everything out.(I don't have the tools to do it) It will also be a lot easier to carry out of my basement by myself now instead of in one piece. Holy Shit are they heavy together.
Also next week I will be hopefully starting the hub rebuild and getting the V6 calipers and rotors and pads. Then I can start the knuckle rebuild.
Also buying a new DD, so now I can really start to tear into this thing! I am getting a 1995 Toyota 4runner V6 (I know a 3 slow) 5-speed SR5 with only 150,000 miles and dealer serviced its whole life. I will also get pics of the new ride later this week!

Glad to hear your makin progress. What brand of header did you put on it. I just got another 87 4runner n was about to put a complete exhaust on it as well. Were gonna try to keep this one off the trails for awhile. Plannin on gettin the red runner goin again so my wife can do more wheelin this year n more to come. My rockrunner is gonna need a lil attention soon aswell. It didnt go back under the knife yet as I have been plannin. Just got to many irons in the fire up here. Think maybe i need a bigger fire. LOL

I went with the obx headers. I got them on ebay for $140. Also got a muffler for 25 then just the pipe and clamps from Advanced Auto. THey fit well, I like them now I will see how these headers hold up!

The headers are stainless steel and a 4 into 1 design. Very easy install and came with everything I needed.

Cool, i was curious how well those headers are made? Do you think it helped your performance much? I know were not gonna make any serious power but would like to wake up every squirrell we can in there. When i was lookin at those headers they didnt list one for 87. What year did you order it for?

88t4r

I ordered for an 88. I can't tell yet about the power. Havent driven it much. I will let you know in a few days.

John has headers on his orange runner you could ask him about performance gains. I'm gonna get some eventually because I'm sick of having my foot in in the floor all the time.

He has the LCE headers and he said he likes them. They are just to much for me right now.
