The tear down of the black YJ has officially begun. Didnt have much time today but got alot of the bolt on taken off. Flares, rocker guards, over head console, CB radio, Co2 bottle, bracket, locker air lines and valve, CD player, fire bottle, etc.

The steering is gonna come off in the morning so I can it to work to clean it and repaint, followed by dismounting the 35's and redoing the wheels. Then comes the axles, t-case, etc etc.

How it looks now...
Notice the body rot....everywhere....

Sorry for the crappy pics, my good cam is in the Allegheny River....

So whats the plan?

Nothing is set in stone, but I'm gonna start with a CLEAN 95 YJ, 6cyl. I'm thinking SOA, factory springs, 1" BL, 1" MML, flat skid, the 8.8 (might add a locker or spool since its no longer a dd) D30 with OX and alloy shafts from the black YJ. Aluminum skids and crusher corners, tube fenders. For now its gonna have the np231/sye. Eventually, it will get an atlas.

Nothing too crazy. Just gonna be a pretty run of the mill SOA. Might go up to 37's after its done.

I would suggest that you add an extra leaf to the stock springs, I added a main w/ the eyes cut off. Now I'm running the RE 1.5"s.
Don't forget the traction bar, didn't need one with my 4-banger but mandatory with my 4.0.

Looks so nice I don't know if I'd wheel it. It looks like it might have been painted, looks like sun fading on the flares and rockers.

It looks clean! It's definately had some paint work. The black around the corners of the flares looks like rust repair or camo.

Ok, after months of searching for a new YJ, I finally settled on one. Its a 92, 4.0, auto. Has been torn down and rebuilt. Has a 95 tub, and bunch of add ons already on it. NO RUST NO RUST NO RUST. Not a spec of rust, no bubbling paint, no corrosion. Its clean. I am gonna go SOA with my 8.8 and locked 30. It will be delivered via tractor trailer within two weeks. We agreed on the deal today, and a sales contract is being sent out to me Monday. Anyway, here are the pics.....

(No, the wheels and tires are not included, which is fine cause they are 33's, and I have a set 35's sitting around.)

Pretty much the plan.:033: It should look good SOA on 35's. Its on 33's in the pics, and still looks good. I might add the bars to rocker guards, do a few other little things. Anyone have a rear set of factory TJ flares? Its gonna meet the sawzall no long after it meets me.....

Exactly why I wanted the auto. Its not a DD so i figured it would be nice to have on the rocks.

the only thing i hold against the auto's are, they are more difficult/complicated than a manual. meaning there is more to them, but yeah it would be really nice in the woods

True, they are called "voodoo slush boxes" for a reason. But I have been inside the RH32 (TF999) many times, and it is stupid simple. No special tools are needed to re build, and water proofing them is easy. So even if it needs rebuilt at some point, its not a big deal. ;)

Started ordering parts today. BTF high steer bracket, u bolts, spring perches, SYE, fab parts for anti wrap bar, dom tube, tires, etc. Might throw an Aussie in the 8.8 while I have it out too. Jeep should be here next weekend, sold the old one and its getting dragged out of the garage on sat.

On a side note, picked up another hand gun today too. :)

I'm gonna try to get the SOA done for my Memorial Day camping/wheeling/shooting weekend. Its gonna be close considering I will only have every other weekend to work on it. I will post up when I'll be in the garage if anyone wants to lend a hand.

Finally got a few hrs to work on the new one this weekend.

Got the D35 torn out

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/regalracer1979/Jeep/IMG00062.jpg

Got the brackets off of the 8.8 and ready to mock up...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/regalracer1979/Jeep/IMG00064.jpg

Also, got the SYE done, sand blasted and painted the Rockcrusher Diff cover for the 8.8.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/regalracer1979/Jeep/IMG00063.jpg

Still need to pull the trans and move the vent to the top of the case, and throw a shift kit in it. Then I can put the (almost) flat skid on and mock up the 8.8 to set the pinion angle and final weld everything in.

Should be able to get more stuff done this week while the kid is sleeping before I go to work....

Well, its been a hell of a weekend. Started working on it thursday morning, and just wrapped it up for the night. As right now, the SOA is done, kinda. The axles are in, welded up and bolted in. Yanked the tranny, relocated the breather to the top of the case, did the SYE on the tcase, got it put back in. Got the flat skid up, 1" MORE motor mounts, BTF high steer bracket installed, Dakota steering gear is in, winch is mounted, and a whole bunch more crap is done. A lot more needs done but at least most of the heavy stuff is out of the way.

Still need to make the anti wrap bar, brake lines, vent lines, etc etc. Then do some wiring, and install a bunch more crap I have sitting around for it. Its like it never ends....

Anyway, heres some pics.

The rear is done....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/regalracer1979/Jeep/IMG00079.jpg

The front and rear are done. Its sitting close to ride height even though there is no weight on the front. The front springs will be flat like the rear.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/regalracer1979/Jeep/IMG00085.jpg

Here is the BTF bracket installed on the passenger side knuckle. The tie rod is under the springs, the draglink on top of the springs..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/regalracer1979/Jeep/IMG00089.jpg

Here's the (almost) flat skid installed. I got it from UnderCoverFab.com. Its the Ultra High Clearance, 3/16" steel. I had to add a 1/4"x2" strap across the rear of the skid to mount the anti wrap bar.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/regalracer1979/Jeep/IMG00081.jpg

At an estimated ride height, here is the ground clearance under the skid...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/regalracer1979/Jeep/IMG00084.jpg

Thats all the pics I have for now. I know we got alot more done this weekend but my body and mind are fried.
