So a Dana 60 front end is out of my price range for now. My dad has an 83 3/4 ton suburban 10 bolt front 14 bolt ff rear. In your opinion would it make sense for me to run these axles for now and see if I come across a dana 60 front end at some point. Or fix the Dana 44s for now and just wait til I find a set of 1 ton axles and do it all at once. Im on the fence right now not really sure what would make the most sense....

10 bolt is not an upgrade either.
Fix your shit and wait till you can get tons under it.

44 is better than a 10 bolt.

Outers are the same but the internals are weaker or at best equal.

3/4 ton. You sure its a 10 bolt? 1/2 tons came with 44's.

I have an extra one from a 82 GMC, what you need?

:021:

3/4 ton and 1/2 ton's came with 10 bolt or d44 front axles. depending on year. pre 1980 they got d44's. 3/4 ton's are 8 lug. 1/2 ton's are 6 lug.

d44 and 10 bolts are so close to the same turd, that they aren't worth comparing.

In stock form the pre-88 10 bolt front is actually a touch stronger even though its only got 28 spline inner shafts. This is thanks to Spicer not cutting the horrid D44 neckdown into the 10 bolts inner shafts.

Of course once you upgrade the inners on the 44 the pre-88 10 bolt is nothing more than scrapyard income/handy for the outer spindles, rotors, calipers - etc (I'm running 10 bolt outers on my F250 HP44).

Now there is a 88-up 10 bolt that was very rare in the 88-91 Blazers & suburbans. It was 30 spline like the D44 and did not have that stupid inner shaft neckdown. I never saw one personally, but can only imagine it was a pretty decently strong little half ton axle.

I got one in the yard, dunno if I'll pull the shafts just to see. But you never know.

You can get complete front 60s for $500. Yea, they may need brakes and whatnot but that 10bolt is an used axle also. If you have 1 ton dreams, dont compromise. Just build it once.

No, not saying to use a 60. But if its what you want just do it from the start.

They are out there for cheap. You just have to get out of the wheelin crowd. Find people that don't surf the inflated internet prices. I've seen a few at auctions go for real cheap. Often you can buy a whole truck for what people want for just the axle, then sell off the rest or take it in for scrap.
