WHAT????? if its working with no codes, why in the hell would he put an o2 sensor in it? :smoke: my god, did someone flip your stupid switch to full blast lately?

im thinking on the basis that he is getting 9 mpg like i am in the yj.

jlovbasz3

before the tune up i was getting 9.5 mpg only 80 miles and it was using a half tank from full. now 140 miles from full to half.i think the lucas fuel treatment helped a lot everything i use it in picks up some mpg.

how you like those tires? theyre nothing special but my mom has em on her rav4 and they seem to work pretty good (for a/t's that never do anything extreme). and i dont think those rims look too bad, theyre just too small

<table align="CENTER" border="1" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" width="650"><tbody><tr align="CENTER"><td width="450">Type of Car

</td> </tr> <tr align="CENTER"> <td>Unheated oxygen sensors on 1976 to early 1990s vehicles

As an oxygen sensor ages, contaminants from normal combustion and oil ash accumulate on the sensing element. This reduces the sensor's ability to respond quickly to changes in the air/fuel mixture. The sensor slows down and becomes "sluggish".

At the same time, the sensor's output voltage may not be as high as it once was, giving the false impression that the air/fuel mixture is leaner than it actually is. The result can be a richer-than-normal air/fuel mixture under various operating conditions that causes fuel consumption and emissions to rise.

The problem may not be noticed right away because the change in performance occurs gradually. But, over time, the situation will get worse, ultimately requiring the sensor to be replaced to restore peak engine performance.

IMO O2 sensors have gone the way of brake fluid, something that should be changed at a regular interval, but never is. I know I'm going to be replacing the O2 sensor in my 89 XJ soon. It might be the original with 160k miles on it.

this would explain the backfiring, sooty tail pipe and horrid fuel consumption on the yj.

Hence why my 02's are turned off. No issues. Alot of you guys should look into getting the 02 codes turned off. Then no more cat and no more issues with sensors. Will still pass the emission plug in test, just need to put a dummy cat on for the visual.

not sure if HPtuners is Jeep friendly, but it is Bowtie friendly. :)

the theory is correct, but on newer vehicles this will set off a check engine light. as the emissions systems work together and monitor the engines systems, a sluggish o2 sensor will set a check engine light as long as the rest of the system is working properly. the computer has certain time parameters that sensors must pass to keep the light off. if it takes too long to go to open loop or vice versa, or to heat up on a heated o2 you will get a code. maybe on older (pre obdI systems) this could be more likely, but not on anything newer. i can see you losing 1 or 2 mpg from a sensor that hasnt set a code, but nothing drastic.

i would lean towards other things, or at least have it diagnosed before you start throwing parts at it. does your check engine light work or has it been removed? it should come on when you turn the key to run with the engine off.

sorry for the hijack....
