I am finally getting rid of my 3:73 gearing. What should i get? I do not drive my Tj as an everyday ride. I am thinking 4:11. I am also tossing around the idea of installing a locker. what are your thoughts, and try to keep cost down if at all possible.

thanks

It's really not worth it to make a one step jump in gears. For the cost, you won't gain that much. What are the specs on your Jeep? That can help us decide what gears may be best.

^ Yup, Tire size, transmission, stuff like that can help us give you the most accurate answer :) Also, locking front and rear, and what rear end is in your wrangler? That will help us help you

Well havin a 35 rear, i'd lock the front first, (aussie) :) that way you can drag yourself over an obstacle. Idk how much wheeling you do or what style but i'd save sum funds and swap an 8.8 ford axle in the back then lock it. With a 34in tire, i'd run 4.56s or 4.88s at the top end of the spectrum. Probably 4.56s would work good. Everyone is different and has different needs on the trail.

I would go with 4:56's, the d30 4:88 pinion head is really small (about the size of a golf ball) . As far as the rear end Im not going to get in to the 8.8vD44 arguement again.(cough d44 cough) You can make the d35 last if you know how to drive it. But we can all agree that it is not the best axel to start throwing money into. As far as the locker I would start in the rear. If you lock the front with a lunchbox type locker you will have a tough time turning on dry trails, unless you also put in a 2wdlow kit at the same time. Just my opinion though:028:

4.56's
Lock the front

Works nice with the combo you have. Mine was that way for about a year before it grew again.
