so i got a new project im going to be starting here soon i got a 53 willys that is a tube chassis no motor tranny or axles.

i want to build this so i can skim across water. i no you need a alot of wheel speed and hp so the motor is going to Chevy out of a sprint car.

now what i dont no is should i make this 4wd or 2 what tranny (i was thinking a powerglide) and what axles/ what kinda gearing would i need

i just looking for some ideas and input so i can start looking for parts thanks

ill get some pic this weekend

The crazy ass's in Iceland that do this run 4wd, saw it on the history channel, they said they also have around 800hp and sum run nitrous for an extra pop. Other than that, no clue whatsoever LOL.

well he said sprint motor and most 410 cid sprints running at lernerville are from 7-900 hp so motor shouldn't be a problem. I'd be curious about mating a transmission to an engine not designed for one. I'll be watching this thread for sure

Definitely 4wd or the front tires are going to hit water, loose momentum, and start to push water which will slow the rest of the jeep (unless you have paddle tires mounted backwards). You need those fronts to be spinning. I would rather have FWD than RWD in that situation. You push a boat from the back because it has a hull shaped for it you know?

Might want to consider independent suspension so you can make this have a smooth bottom, but I don't think an independent suspension built for that much HP will be cheap.

Or you could just...

Awesome build idea, but where will you run it?

I'd run the bastard across the yough hahaha, it's shallow enough to drive in in case she's a flop, but deep enough to hydro plane her across LOL Any farm pond will suffice to run it across hahahaha

well after alot of research alot of people are running a blown 383 stroker with nitrous th400 with a 205 t case. they say you need around 600hp

now i still haven't found anything out about axles or gearing yet

i no one place that im going to run it is at yankee lake across the deep pit and collect some cash when i get to the other side not really sure where else i could run it but i will find some where

also i could find some mud drags there are alot of places

I hope I'm not in the bleachers at the end of the deep pit when you got to shut that thing down. LOL I know transfer fair has mud drags at least they did last year.

^ LOL, that could get exciting for sure. I know that Tucker County WV and the tucker county four wheelers have there huge mud drags and stuff down there at least once a year, they've been having them and racing since the late 70s. They were a founding club of EC4WDA Region A. My Grandpap used to run a 5 w/ a 427 chevy in it back in the day down there and all over w. pa. in the hill climbs.
