anyone done it?
im looking into going to canada next year for season.
i have been looking on the internet for a guide and most of the ones i have found are around $10k. it includes the guide, food and a cabin for 3 days. mind u this dose not include the flight or geting to the cabin. is this normal??

Seems like 10k may be a bit on the high end. Give Russ at Bullseye Outfitters in Valencia a call. He knows his stuff and offers trips for almost anything you would ever want to hunt.

My boyfriend is an avid hunter and this is something he really wants to do. From what we have found this is average.. If you want a good guide and a stay that you will remember for a life time. Personally if your gonna sink that kind of money into a hunt you want to remember you get what you pay for...

$10K for 3 days sounds about right, a good fly in moose hunt for a week or 10 days should run you in the $20K range. This generally includes guides, food, sleeping quarters and your charter flight into the wilderness. You're responsible for your commercial flight, taxidermy, tips, hotels....the list goes on and on.

I just returned in September from a week long Ground Barren Caribou Hunt in NWT and it was just over $8K for two bulls ($10K including taxidermy and airfare). It was an awesome trip and the scenery and hunting were unbelievable. I booked with John Andre at Shoshone Wilderness Adventures, he was awesome to deal with and the trip was as good as advertised. I would save some dough and book a good caribou or elk hunt before I drop the coin for a moose hunt (if you don't have those species already).

Unfortunately a big game hunt is not cheap and you definitely get what you pay for. There is nothing worse than booking a cheap hunt, getting a crappy guide and not seeing any game. If I were to hunt moose I would save up the cash and draw 2 or 3 other tags at the same time (caribou, grizzly, wolf). You'll probably spend $30K for a good 2 week hunt, but it will be a trip of a lifetime.

I would also check out a Yukon hunt, while I've never been there it's the mecca of big game hunting.

Seriously though, you can really get more bang for your your buck with an African trip. I think a lot of people just assume the price is prohibitive, but I think you would be suprised. Assuming of course you would like to go there and hunt that type of game. Good luck.

Africa hunts never appealed to me, they just don't seem all that difficult but I've never had any first hand experience. Plus I could only imagine to price of the taxidermy bill.

I'll take that elk hunt off your hands for you, thats the next species on my list (after black bear). I'm hoping for an elk trip to the Yukon eventually, but money is going to be tight for a while.

I have a black bear bowhunt in norther Saskatchewan booked for this June, they are fun, cheap, laid back hunt. They seem easy on TV, but this will be my third hunt and I have yet to take a bear. I would definitely put this on your list, the fishing is great too!

i dont think i would pay for a bear hunt. i go bear hunting every year local for all 3 days. i have to say iv never seen one but me n my dad always stop down the station before we head home and there is always someone there with their prize bear. i think the expo mart is going be the best place to try to find a guide.

Expo mart will be the WORST place to find a guide. Any guide who needs to go show to show to book hunts should be avoided. I would only book a hunt with someone you have personal references for.

Bear hunts in PA and bear hunts in SK are two completely different hunts. I would suggest watching some youtube videos.
