Sounds like a bad ground, I really don't know that much about GM wiring but Jeep, MoPar and Ford share grounds for the interior and running lights. It could be that the radio/amp ground was shared with the non working lamps. I'd check there first.

I'd almost guarantee it's a ground. My uncle had this problem when he replaced the fuel pump on his 98 chevy 1500. He accidently disconnected a ground wire for the rear lights when removing the bed, reconnected it and fixed the problem

I was just going to suggest this as the possible problem. The salt and other crap gets in there and does nasty things.

only thing is i dont see how that would make the interior lights not work ..... inless they share the same ground.

well .... found 2 things that caused my issues.
1) the 3rd brake light / cargo light has a short in it
2) the wiring at the switch has a loose or broke wire

when i put the switch back in .. lite on ... screw in brazel and now the light goes out .. pull brazel back out and the lights come back on. WTF !
