im building a set of indoor cycle rollers for the wifes bike. i need some bearings to fit inside some 1.50 pipe (I.D. size is 1.610") i need about 6 of them...anyone know of a place either online or in the area where i could get them?

thanks in advance!

What Inner Diameter for the bearing? ie the shaft

it doesnt necessarily matter...if i could find them with 5/8 or 3/4 for the pin to go through that'd be good

That OD is going to be hard to find in a common bearing, since its not an exact size in Standard or Metric. The closest I can find is 42mm ~ 1.653 inches. That leaves you with a 0.043 press fit. That will destroy the bearing. If you have a hone that will hone the pipe ID out to 1.650, that would be reasonable at 0.003 press fit.

Do you have any DOM laying around you could use? Much easier if you have the exact size you need!

The speeds if its direct drive to the wheel will be high, so you have to consider that in how they all fit, and their rated load...unless your wife likes surprises and you like having a bike trail in your living room lol

yeah i can get some DOM...in about a 2 inch size, and i could always hone it out to fit...i'll get that bitch in there...LOL!

thanks again man!

At 30 mph.

The pipe will be spinning at 5300 rpm. 2" DOM will be spinning at 5050 rpm.

so you think i oughta make the tube bigger in diameter? even though she'll never go 30 mph?

Mcmaster should list max rpms for the bearings. Just giving you an idea.

oh ok...thanks! i would just but a roller system but they are 200 dollars or more for something you'd only use in the winter time

edit: the one with the 2" OD has a max RPM of 5,000

and a max rpm range of 3,001 to 7,500

I don't know how you planned to set up the rollers, but I would look into supporting the weight of the bike/rider with an A-frame on either side of the rear axle, and using the tube/bearing assembly as a tensioner against the tire. Tighten it for more resistance, loosen it for less resistance. Look at the old school "spinning" type bikes to see what I mean.

If the tube/bearing assembly has to take the entire weight of the rider/bike AND handle that kind of speed, you're looking into more work if you want it to last.

yeah i was thinking about just building the back half with rollers and then building supports for the back of the bike

yeah nashbar sells the whole free roller system for 150 bucks....i could hardly build it for that, with the price of bearings and stuff, im probably gonna just order her one

God forbid anything happen, but homeowners might pay for a new picture window in the living room with one from nashbar. LOL

PS check Performance bike for sales also....

Has she ever ridden on rollers before? If not make sure to take video when she first tries.
