Well here it goes,

Another winter another build. As most of you guys know I finished my TJ on New Year's Day 2009. Well it's been a year and its time for something different so my TJ is back under the knife for some slight modifications.

Here's how it started:

4.5" RE SF lift (anyone wanna buy a sweet lift?) 1" BL on 35's.

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa311/mxer513/Jeep%20TJ/0412091525.jpg

Plans are:
Ditch the short arms
Dana 60 rear
Dana 44 front
2.5" YJ Leafs all around
Sprung over
Stretched rear ~5"
H1 Rims
37X12.50X16.5's
Relocated fuel tank
STREET LEGAL DD

Here's some pics of day one.

Yes those are pine logs, yes they're the only thing holding the Jeep up, yes the negative battery terminal is off along with the parking brake fully engaged. And yes I am perfectly safe. I think.

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa311/mxer513/Project%20Knotty%20Pine/IMG_1943.jpg

Axles coming out along with shocks, springs, trackbars, panhard bars, and all the other nonsence.

It'll be in a sealed box don't worry. I'll eventually have a fuel cell in there but for now it's getting built into the back. And it will be properly ventilated and have the evap and everything hooked up. If you have enought fumes coming out of your fuel system that its going to explode or catch on fire there's something wrong with your setup!

I've used logs myself as jack stands, but they are like 18" or more in diameter, and sometimes already layed down. Those look a little to narrow for me to get under there, one good push and it looks like she'd roll them logs, jmo. :103:

mxracer513

Believe me there was ALOT of pushing and pulling to make sure they were sturdy. My buddies din't trust me already so everyone made sure they were safe. The front and rears are ~10" and the skids are ~14"

So long as it is sealed up it should not be a problem. I hooked back up all of the vent lines. the only thing I had to lenghten was the fuel pump wires. even the fuel line was long enough, I just had to straighten it out and shove it up through a body grommit.

Good luck Jesse! It will be nice when its done. Nothin wrong with you using logs as jackstands, as long as your comfortable with it not goin anywhere thats all that matters, we ain't climbing under it LOL. Ive used logs before like that, just gotta be smart about how you use them and use a lot of them it won't go anywhere if there big enough diameter.

Oh BTW this is for you and your lil pic caption :flipoff2:, My Husky is done while your Stihl sawing LOL.

I'm going to the basement to load a few more jackstands into the old woodstove. Your vote of confidence is appreciated for how well they'll work. I don't know if the old girl has enough heat in her to burn my mall crawling jack stands, but damn it all I'm going to try!

Hey Jesse, Check out Slade on JeepinWV, maybe shoot him a PM and ask some questions, he is in the process of doing the exact same thing you are but much further along, his leaf packs and shackle angle are Tits! The leaf pack is damn near flat and the shackle angle is near text book, should flex like hell. I'm not sure what tire size he is goin with but sumthin tells me 40s or 42s iirc.

2002wranglerX
03-01-2010, 12:15 AM
I'm not against any of this, but you might run into turning radius issues with outboarded springs and trying to keep the tires under the flares... I can't run mine any narrower (I wanted to so I could fit it on the trailer) or my tires will hit the springs.

Although with 37s you might be ok. But really that's only 2.5" different from the outside of the radius of the tire to the spring... are you gonna stretch the front at all?

Sorry dude, but you are going to be utterly disappointed with leafs. It IS simple, but you're taking a huge step in the wrong direction with leafs. Take it from someone with first hand experience. I had a LA'd TJ and went to a SOA YJ. I'm ditching all that leaf spring crap and going to links.
Get read to hump rocks instead of climbing them. And there is no way, no how that a SOA truck will touch a truck with links when it comes to flex.

I'm quite aware of DW, as I've been watching him for years. It certainly wasn't last year, or the year prior. It wasn't pro-mod either. It was mod stock in 2007. It's neither here nor there.

As I said, I've been there. Your climbing ability goes straight down the tubes with rear leafs, no matter how well they're set up.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, you just made a huge mistake there buddy, any time you want to race your Stihl against my Husky, PM me and let me know, i'm only down Rt. 30 about a half hour, i'll eat your 440 for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, we can even post the video on here haha all in good fun, but you'll eat your words without a shadow of a doubt, I don't run no disposable homeowner saws :018: And anyone else wants to try there luck against me and my Husky just let me know I love a little competition. :082:

Ok....whatever you say. I will pm you with my next tree job, bring your "husky" and see if it can do a 12hr day cutting what we do. Single cut through one log, hell no. Try 20+ inchers all day and lets see if your "hot saw" is up to the task. If displacement is the issue, I can get out the 66 or 88, your choice.

I would honestly love to come on a tree job, I enjoy running saws quite a hobby of mine. My Husky is a 288xp, with mild port job and the muffler opened up, looks like it got eaten for dinner and shit out but runs great. Wears a 24in Powermatch Plus with Stihl RSC or Oregon 72 on it. Also run a 20in on it to fool around and have a 28in for the occasional big stuff. I regularly fell and buck standing hardwood with broken tops etc. for firewood 20in plus class all day long. I know your 440 would get its ass handed to it by my 288xp, i'm assuming you have an 066/660 and an 088/880? The 660 will be dead even with my 288xp maybe a hair faster. Like I said anytime you want to put that 440/441 whatever it was up against my 288xp Lemme know :)

There is no difference :flipoff2:

But anyway i'm getting things together this week. Class is taking up all Jeep time but I just got back from Uniontown Auto Spring and hopefully i'll have springs ready this weekend. Tires and wheels are being ordered shortly so hopefully i can get atleast the axles in this weekend or next week because it's spring break next week and i'll have all sorts of time to get this wrapped up.

2.5 lift springs is going to be real high sitting on military 37s IMHO .. i have a flat set of stock Xjs with a added main on the rear of mine and it more than clears 38s ..just My opinion before you buy springs

I really dont think its going to be too tall. I guess everyone is ignoring the posts im making. My heep is too tall, id like to drop it about 1.5" Im SOA on 3" Packs with 37's. and they stuff till they rub.

I say go for it, I personally would never do stock YJ springs for SOA. They crap out WAY too quick. U'll have them negative arched and bent in no time.

Heres some motivation for your height.

mxracer513
03-14-2010, 09:36 PM
Yeah i used these cuz they were free i might get them arched eventually idk. Your jeep looks real good and thats with a 3" on 37's im going to be 3" lower!

And ok you guys said that the 2.5" springs are too big, ok, I put stock springs on it. Now your saying it's too high, what springs am i supposed to get? Ones that have less arch than STOCK??? Come on.

the 2.5 are too big IMHO ..and if it were me id either stretch it more and hang the shackles on the bumper ,or id french those hangers to drop that height a bit more

I bought his old 8.8 rear axle and am putting it under my TJ wit ha similar lift but I've got all sort of issues. He needs to get his ass back here, I got some questions. LOL

And he needs to update this bitch and let us know how far he's got. By the time he gets back, his jack stands may grow roots and lift the Jeep for him. Hehehehe. I jest.

mxracer513
07-07-2010, 01:30 PM
They aren't recentered, thats the only thing im having problems with. The wheels are touching the brake lines. I think i'm going to have to put a little bit of a spacer in the front. Them rims have been nothing but problems. Big thanks to lagonda machine shop for making me custom high steer arms because the so called "H1" ones i got didn't fit.

New perches from ruffstuff. They have good stuff cheap.

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa311/mxer513/IMG_20110105_142558.jpg

And i milled down the logs and used a jackstand this time. Much harder to get right then putting the logs under.

Also outboarded the springs and did a shackel reversel.
