Does anybody know where I can get parts to rebuild my front driveshaft CV joint. Can't find any parts suppliers that have the ball socket between the double U-joints. Mine is wore out and hate to have to buy a brand new drive shaft from AutoZone. I'm going Monday to get one out of a junkyard but would like to rebuild this one or have a good spare.

NAPA part number PUJ617, about 45 bucks. My local NAPA stocks them.

Point Spring and Driveshaft carries the spicer part. I replaced mine once with that Napa part and within 1 year it was bad again. Not to mention the old ball and seal were a PITA to get out....even with a press.

Not saying Napa parts arent good, but I think (in the longrun) its cheaper and easier to just buy the new yoke with the ball already pressed in.

Murdicks auto parts in butler was where I had to get mine for my 1979 f250. It's the centering yoke. The one I got at advance wouldn't even allow my cv to move.

Alot of times the stud on your driveshaft yoke will also be worn.( part that seats in the centering ball) If this part is shot it will wear out centering balls left and right. Ask me how i know. You have to cut the yoke off, press a new one in, balance, and reweld. If I were to do it again I probably would have just got another junkyard shaft.

Thanks for the input guys. AutoZone wants around $300 for one with a lifetime warranty. Which would be the way I would go if I could afford it right now. I think I'll go get the junkyard shaft and throw it in for now until I get around to rebuild this one or buy a new one.
