Seriously. After the wreck which I'm still pissed about, the Jeep was sitting there waiting for me to decide what replacement parts, and a huge chunk of ice slid off my roof, and ripped the door handle off.

I'm not happy.

As Albert King use to sing...If it wasn't for bad luck, you would have no luck at all.

No way in hell I'm getting up there! As for a passer by, it's my property and not overhanging on any kind of public space. If you're behind my house and 3' from it for some reason and I didn't ask you to be there, the ice should slide. If you want to try and sue me for something like that, good luck...

I love how the AC is still in the window.

Sucks about the ice, but at least you can use it as an excuse for the next couple days if you shoot your eye out with a BB gun.

I had that issue too. I added heated wires to the roof/gutters and it's good to go now!

That's the spare room that used to be the office (don't use it), the A/C used to need to run constantly to deal with the heat from the servers, they're in the basement now.

I looked into them...it was going to be over $1000 to do my house.

wow.... talk about being parked in the wrong place at the wrong time.

this is just another sign that the 5.9 wants to be tore down and made into a "off-road" buggy

They make diy kits and can be had for alot cheaper...

How is it wired in? The kits I was looking at used temp and humidity sensors to turn on the heating elements. In every kit this was the most expensive part. I don't really need this and if I could just wire it into a light switch it would be a lot cheaper.

Sounds like the 5.9 is cursed lately. Maybe an exorcism is needed?

The ones at my house are just plugged into an outlet up by the roof, I have them on a shutoff inside the house you could use a light switch as well. Frost King makes it. Roof and gutter tape.

I'll need to look into that. Even if I only really need it every 5 years, it would be worth a couple hundred bucks. I had some seriously bad ice dams this year.

yup ice ripped one of our gutters off today so I was up there after work chipping away at the 3 inch thick ice on the roof.

Ice dams were bad. I'm going to try the DIY heated cable as well. Too bad it is only a preventative measure. I had a dam buckle a shingle and I had water come down the wall, hit a window header, and spit out between the trim. I'm watching tv and the window just spits on the floor next to me. It also pushed up between the siding and leaked water onto my breaker box in the garage. I spent a whole weekend with a hammer chipping 8" thick ice, then using calcium chloride to open up the gutters. F this winter.
