I need something to to get a 3/16 peice of steel hot enough to where I can make a slight bend. The bend that's in it is about 13-14" wide. I need to get it to a perfect 90*. It's close but it's not quite there.

I have no idea what tool to use to do this. Maybe a plasma cutter set up on low heat? I don't know.

Anybody close to pittsburgh that could do this? Thanks!

Dude, Oxy Torches with a healthy tip, put rosebud on her and give it hell, should do the trick easy enough.

LOL! no way...not on something that is 13-14 inches.

it can be done, but it takes 2 people.

ive tried it on 1/8th inch 12inches by 12inches and couldnt get an even bend. cuz i couldnt heat it even and hit it right, in enough time. lol.

take it to a machine shop they should be able to bend it

Is this piece that needs bent conected to the jeep or is it loose? If it is loose I would either clamp it to or weld it to a steel work bench(a thick steel work bench) then just heat it and beat it around the edge of the bench.

That would be nice but I don't have the means. AND for the last time LOL, it's just a peice of armor that covers the rear quarter of the jeep. The part that's bent goes up under the rear portion on the jeep. If you're familiar with the XJ cut-n-fold, it covers up the cut n fold.

Because it's not a perfect 90, it causes the armor to not line up right on the side of the jeep. I could probably get it in place by using a hightlift to press it up there but I'm worried that it will bend somewhere I don't want it to. IF I can even get the highlift to bend it.

It doesn't have to be perfect by any means, just enough to get the whole stupid thing to sit flush. Either that or I drive the god damn jeep into the river :D.

Wear a dry suit, I bet the river is pretty damn cold.

I think I'm just going to beat the living hell out of it some more. If it bends somewhere else than I'll beat that area. If nothing works than I'll just cut that part off lol. It'll probably just collect mud anyway.

I never used a hammer so much before buying a jeep lol.

I have a 4ton port-o-power tou could try to use. the problem I see is that you would have to find a way to hold the piece and even then I dont know if 4 ton would cut it.

Here's the jist of it. I didn't put any effort into my paint :flipoff2:

The red line is where it folds under the jeep. If I can't get it straight, than I'm thinking I'll just cut it off at the red line and weld it to the bumper end below it (the grey part) :)

if it needs to be a 90* bend ... why not just weld a 2nd piece to the 1st ?

Cut it and weld it.... if its really thick cut halfway through it, bend, then fill with weld. That's how the half inch truss on my front 60 was done.

I think that's what I'll end up doing , thanks.
