If you are asking how to get the pilot bearing out, find a piece of round stock that just fits in the bearing like the input sahft of the tranny would. them pack greese into the pilot bearing push the greese in with the round stock. keep doing that until it is completly full. get as much greese in there as you can then take the round stock and drive it in the pilot bearing with a hammer. if it doesn't pop out, pack more greese in there and do it again and again. this usually works great but you have to make sure that the round stock is a tight fit in the bearing.

I can't picture what clip you are talking about. Its in the bellhousing on the throw out arm? If you are talking about the clips on the throwout bearing( I believe the are anti rattle clips) they should come with the new throwout bearing. If you are not replaceing the trowout bearing YOU ARE AN IDIOT.lol

no they arent the ones on the throwout bearing, they are on that arm, that connect to the rods to the arm.

and yes...im replacing the bearing...haha

If the grease Idea doesn't work out, I usually use a small chisel or screwdriver and hammer and bust out the old bushing. Just be careful not to scar up the crank.

there is no bearing in the new motor. so i dont care about the old one, i was gonna take it out, because i thought it was 2 pieces...a bearing and a collar.

it is not 2 pieces, its one piece. they just sent me the wrong bearing. they sent me the bearing, but no collar. i guess there are different ones for different 4.0L's

there should just be 1 piece, and it looks like a big metal sleeve and the bearing inside. it looks like 2 pieces but is really 1. sounds like you have the wrong pilot bearing.

Brandon, I think that you are right. I believe that clip goes on the side with the ball and socket to keep the throw out arm from falling off of the pivot.

limegreentj
03-09-2010, 09:18 PM
yeah it should go on the left (if you are looking at the front of the vehicle) side rod

tjblair

It should go on the side that doesn't move, or the left side in your pic. that side should be the pivot. the right side is where the slave cylinder goes.

On the pilot bearing issue....All I can say is that for $15 I borrowed the pilot bearing puller. And for $25 I borrowed a slide hammer. And they worked flawlessly. And I got my money back. Jusss sayin'
