No not the rear axel....Yet

After I relocated the gas tank my rear crossmember was really exposed. So I decided to box it in. Sorry for the cell phone pix, Our camera crapped the bed.

Once that was done I started on the bumper.I had an old tire carrier bumper that I didn't really like so I cut the tire carrier part off. the bumper really only bolted to the frame with the two bolts that go in from the bottom. And the other four bolts went through the ends of the rear crossmember. I didn't really like this so I took soe 1/4" plate and made wome brackets to back up the crossmember and bolt to the frame.

Then I started on the actual bumper.I welded up the tabs that went from the bumper to the bottom of the frame.

Then I welded on some d-rings.

This is what it looks like so far.

Agreed, they are thin. And without the tank there I knew it was going to get FUBAR'ed.

The tire carrier part is still good, you would have to get some sort of hinge. Stop on over and take a look at it.

No I am gona have it lean on the stinger. I want to be able to fit a bigger tire later on. the way it is now the tire is just setting on top of the rubber bumper on the tailgate. If I take of the bumpers the tire should drop down another two inches. I think that I should still be able to fit a 39 or 40.

That turned out real nice Jeff! You make it so it hangs parralel to the ground and locks there when folded down and you can lay a piece of plywood on it for a picnic table on the trail LOL then you can make it so it folds all the way down to get the spare in and out easy :)
