i got a 98 wrangler 2.5 , and the idle gets all whacky( it will drop below 1 stay there and then jump all the way up to 2.5.) and when im driveing my engine will cut out. and also iv noticed a drastic change in my gas milage i went 160 some miles in used almost 2 full tanks of gas. iv replaced my plugs wires and rotar and the plugs looked good golden brown. got a diagnostic test done at advance and the only thing that came up were power steering censors. do you guys have any suggestions to what i should try next ?

IAC probably. Idle air control motor.

Either that or the CPS is showing warning signs. I don't know much about the CPS going bad but I've read every symptom in the book being related to it.

I'd research the IAC first.

MAF- is mass air sensor MAP is the same thing, except i think 1 is obdI and the other is OBDII (OBD on board diagnostics)

CPS is crankshaft position sensor.

Is your's a 5 speed or automatic? When i got my tj it was getting shitty gas mileage i just gave it a tune up plugs, wires, cap, rotor,& air filter cleaned the t-body with b-12 chem tool and used Lucas and it picked up a lot more mpg.

i didnt buy new sensors just cleaned them out with some starting fluid and break cleaner. took off my throttle body cleaned that up and the enging doesnt seem to be as sluggish. i put some injector cleaner in it today when i filled up ( since its a daily thing now) i got some gumout throttle body cleaner today and will try that tommorow
