Thinking about doing a Suspension lift, currently have a body. I wanna drop the body to 1", and do around a 4 or 5" Suspension lift and prob get 35" tires. Would it be possible to get 37" with that setup, and also, any tips for what brand and type of lifts I should buy?

my tj is 5" total and i could prob. fit 36's

but i have tube fenders in the front.

i wouldnt go much more than that though...sometimes i actually think mine is too high

It will clear 37's if you just want to roll around on them. If you wheel it, you'll eat the fenders.

Sorry, it is for a 97

and limegreentj, what size tires do you have on? i didnt want to go over 5" if I could, and 37s are not that high of a priority, 35s are more what I want.

4cyl or 6cyl ?

Do you plan on doing gears? If you aren't doing gears don't over do it. 4'' suspension with 1'' BL and 33's will look great. Nothing sucks more than gay stuffage. Even just the 4'' with 33's will look good. Plus the 4'' kit drops the tranny down an inch to eliminate the drive line vibes. Anything over the 4'' kit I would highly recommend a SYE and slip shaft with a double cardian joint(spelling?).

But also don't be affraid to do it one step at a time. If you plan on going big, maybe do the gears first. Do it once, do it right.

Just my $.02

^ thats my setup...sometimes the tires look a little small, but it works well...i might even pull the body lift off someday and just go 4" and 33's.

Before you go balls out and lift it to the sky (which is stupid IMHO), think about where you are wheeling and what your real needs are. I am wheeling 3" of lift, stock CA's, and 33's. I am pretty capable on the trails here in PA. I would like to go to 35's (and chop some body) so I can have a little more clearance on the diffs for when I head back to some areas I have wheeled in the past (Meridians park up in Six Points for example).

Not to hi-jack, but For those that have seen my wheelin' style that is (not a throttle hog, I'm a finesse guy); would you guys recommend I get upgraded shafts before I wheel 35's?

if you are on a 35 out back, i personally would NOT build up a 35 with a super 35 kit or anything...you'll spend way more money than just swapping a junkyard 44 or 8.8

or a currie 44 with e locker that i'll soon have for sale  well, if the 2 people who have already said they want it don't take it lol.

I think the D35 weakness debate is exactly that, a debate. I have read about people running a D35 out back, trussed with a super35 kit and 35's and they aren't having issue like some do have on grenading gears. I think it's all in your (not yours personally Brandon, but "your" in general) driving style.

yeah but still..have you seen how much a super 35 kit costs???

i still think it would be way cheaper to do the 44 or 8.8

http://www.4wheelerssupply.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/73187

thats with a Detroit...so if you didnt want that, take about 200-280 off of that price...its still crazy expensive, when you could get one from a yj and have it done in a weekend, or get one from a tj and have it done in a few hours.

i mean, really, you could spend 500-800 bucks on polish for a turd...but in the end its still gonna be a turd. i dont see too many people running a super 35 kit, basically for the reason that you could buy a much better COMPLETE axle, at a much better price

It is a 6cyl. And, at the moment I did not plan on doing gears, and sticking with 33's wouldn't be a problem, I have them now. My main thing is I want to change the body lift to the suspension lift. Saying that, I probably might just go with a 4" lift and keep my 33's for the time being. I can always buy new tires. What brand should I buy though? I am not familiar with which ones are good.

Depending on what you are doing....Tires with alot of sipes (cuts in knobs) are good for crawilng because they let the knob expand and stretch for more traction.

If you just want a knobby tire that looks good....Then nothing wrong with nice AT like general grabber (nice and cheap) or say a mud knob like a dunlop mud rover.

I personally got Cavalier Mud Kings from www.tireteam.com for my 85 K10. 33x12.5x15 and they were i believe $130 a tire. $70 in shipping.

I was thinking about going with some Mickey Thompson MTZs, but i have some time to think about that, especially if I stay with 33s. What about for the lift kit, any tips on good brands there?

I'm a big fan of BDS. They have a no questions asked warranty and I've wheeled with a couple of the guys, not to mention the one guy has a gorgeous wife/girlfriend/fiance.

Who would this be? haha. I run a BDS on my yj and like it. if you are going to wheel a lot shit breaks... why not have a warrenty to replace some of the broken parts. I haven't had anything break on the BDS part, Its just the rest of my turd.

X3...or 4 on BDS. I don't have a full BDS lift, just shocks, but when I do have the $ flow, I'll probably end up buying a BDS long arm set up.

Otherwise, do your research on the Zone products Jeff listed and see what others say about their product. I'd trust Jeff wouldn't list a crap product, he knows his sh!t.

I am running a 4" suspension on my TJ with 35" MTZ's with no problems. I know of another guy with the same lift running 36" and he wheels it on the upper level blue trails with no problems. If I could do mine over again I would prob just stay with the factory springs and do the tube fenders on the front and rear to clear the 35" tires. I do not like the monster truck look if it can be avoided, and you keep the center of gravity low for of camber situations.

thanks, ill take a look into the BDS and see what I come up with

Zone is made by BDS it just doesn't carry the warranty. And it is a little more budget minded. but zone kits are still decent.
