255/70 valving

or

170/60 valving?

Which valving would be best for this type of rig? (bilstein 5125's)

Definitely the 255/70. The 170/60 are meant for dual shock purposes mostly. I'd even like to go a little stiffer than 255/70 but adjustables are $$.

Rancho makes adjustables. The 9000 series IIRC. Just to clearify, when I said adjustables, I meant optional valving. Bilstien 7100's :) They're not cheap!

Do a search for the 5125's. They're a descent shock. Send ECKSJAY on NAXJA a message with your static measurements and he'll get you setup with a good deal.

I would love the 7100's but that's overkill for my application. I don't know much about the ranchos. Are they really worth their $$? I remember long ago when I bought rs5000's and they sucked like balls. I know they were truck shocks but they rusted immediately and seemed like cheap shocks.

Right now I'm thinking maybe to get the HD shackle relocation brackets first to fix my shackle angle cuz it's vertical. I figured if I get it to around 30-45 degrees then it would improve the rear suspension softness. it's so bouncy right now cuz of the shackle angle and somewhat stiff RC shocks.

You know those HD relocation brackets have an inch and a half of lift built into them as far as I know. Otherwise they are a sweet ass setup :)

I can't seem to get an accurate lift height from them. They told me about an inch, other people say 3/4", and some say 1.5". No one actually said the same measurements for some reason. I'm gonna be using these with stock shackles and I could use an extra inch in the rear, but 1.5" is too much. I want to know exactly how much i'll get.

Ive heard the same thing man its hard to say, just one of those unknown factors unfortunately.

went with the procomp mx-6's. world of difference over the old hydros!!

I would say the HD brackets would add the difference from the stock bolt hole to the surface of the stock "box". In other words it probably wouldn't be too hard to measure that to get an idea. I'd think it would be more than an inch.

Have you thought about boomerang shackles from RE or TnT? They might help ya.

If I'm correct, boomerange shackles are good for clearance, not angles. If I put a boomerange shackle on now, I will still have a vertical shackle angle, but in the shape of a boomerange. I don't seem to have any clearance issues with the stock shackles.

I spoke with the guy who fabs up the brackets. He said it's about 1.5" lift if you keep the same shackle angle but once you convert a 90 degree shackle angle to a 40 degree angle, then you lose some lift and it will be around 1" to .75". So basically I'll be getting 1" or so since my angles are 90.

Okay so ur gonna use the stock shackle with the boxes but at a steeper angle correct? Or are you going to use a longer shackle coupled with the boxes and a steeper angle? I'm curious cuz ive thought about these boxes for a long ass time and am still not sure If I want them or not.

This is the angle my shackles are now (not my jeep but same angles):

This is the angle I want to achieve:

But I want to do this with stock shackles so I don't get too much lift.

That makes sense. That should work out good then.
