Exactly my reason for what I said in your other post. Not trying to be a dick, but you get what you pay for...and for $450, you got just that. A motor alone is enough work when your trying to get it on the road....add floors onto that and you got yourself one hell of a project.

Im also not saying you do shotty work, but if your taking the time to put new floors in, please do them right and dont cut corners.

So Brandon is swamped with orders for shit to be fabbed up, then he picks this up.

Good thing you're currently unemployed BRAH, otherwise this would probably never get done lol.

limegreentj
04-15-2010, 09:13 AM
im done fabbing...lol.

i knew that the floors were rusty, but didnt think they were that bad til i got the seats and shit out. no big deal. i'll get it fixed some day.

im not in a hurry really...im gonna fix this slowly then keep it for me, and buy her a dd and she can switch between this one and a nicer one...really the floors are shitty and it needs an engine, but for 450 bucks i dont think i lost out...

limegreentj
04-15-2010, 09:11 PM
well im gonna keep it, and build it...im not really in a hurry, but i am...LOL

i got everything but the drivers seat out today and i should be able to start cleaning up everything by saturday (maybe before)

i fully believe that after i get everything out and cleaned up, i can put the entire floor in, in probably a day and a half and have it painted and interior in in another day.

the drivers side rocker is shot, but the passengers side is like new (except for a dent) ive been pricing rocker panels and stuff, and pricing steel, and i might just cut the rocker out and do this:

http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f58/rocker-panel-sliders-34626/

it'll be way cheaper and stronger. one minute i get depressed and hate myself for buying it, and the next minute im excited and anxious to get it done.

all in all, when its done i'll have a cheap reliable nice ride for both of us to drive/ light wheeling.

i might call it Project: opposite sex-j

We did a rocker like that on my buddy's Samurai but we used angle instead of tube.I t worked out great.
Give ZJ 5.2 Limited a PM I think he still might have his 4.0 from his grand he did a V8 swap on.

it also has leather front seats, which are nice, except the driver has a tear in it...but i ****in' hate leather seats...i stick to them. so what i might do is throw a set of charcoal grand cherokee seats ive had for 5 years in it...they are like brand new, pulled them out of a totalled zj with like 20k on it. so im gonna make em work

I'm suprised the floors are that bad. It looks pretty clean from the outside. You should cut everything out and replace it with box steel! Then put a floor on top of that. Hehe

There was a thread on PBB where I guy did that. If I find it I'll post it up.

honestly man, its crazy, the uni is solid as hell, and the bracing inside is completely rust free, and the outside is completely rust free, but the floor is completely gone...all of it.., which really isn't that big of a deal...just kinda overwhelming at first. i thought about doing something to strengthen the uni, but its in good enough shape right now. and if i put the 2x4 (or 6) rectangle steel in the rockers that will strengthen it up quite a bit.

i wouldnt say im lucky...lucky in the sense that i know how to repair shit....but not smart enough to know to stay away...LOL!

mike, you just need to slow down a bit and worry about repairs and how to repair, then worry about mods...take it a day at a time and learn. you'll catch on eventually.

Hey man, if you wanna do the research and see if the seats out of an '01 XJ will bolt up in there and yours will bolt straight into the '01; I could try and talk the wife into trading you straight up. She has cloth seats & likes leather.

well, finished removing the interior today, rust is pretty bad, but im lucky in a sense that its not too intricate under there, its all flat pieces, and not any insane curves around stuff...im gonna start cleaning it out and get all the old stuff out tomorrow, maybe start on the floor mon or tues....i should be able to do the floor from start to finish in 2 days or so.

flood car maybe?

limegreentj
04-17-2010, 11:56 PM
honestly, i dont think it was a flood car, i think the dude used it for fishing and drove it through deep creeks, and left the carpet wet as hell and it just rotted through. when i yanked the carpet out there wer a shit ton of rubber worms and frogs on the floor.

bolted the new tie rod on, changed the 2 front wheels since they were pretty well ****ed up, and painted them too.

it still does some funny things when turning really sharp...it might need aligned and adjusted a little bit, and a lot of the noise at sharp turns is the inner fender hitting the tire since the bumper is bent a little bit......but its a definite improvement...little more tinkering around and i should have it ready to drive tomorrow afternoon evening...hopefully.

new engine is bolted in, will be finishing it this week hopefully. once its running then its on to the floors.

funny story, most of you guys know that the engine needed changed due to a horrible bottom end knock the previous owner told me about. well, we took the old engine out, and discovered the flex plate was cracked. i think thats what all the racket is/was...so the engine it had is probably still in good shape, but i put the new one in anyway, since i know it runs

Dick.Breakey
09-06-2010, 07:55 PM
good news man. glad to know it works. how bout you pitch in the old motor to me and let me get mine running right haha.

so what all does this one need again? or whats left after the motor?

limegreentj
09-06-2010, 07:59 PM
after the motor its:

floors
windsheild (i have it just need someone to put it in, or i might try)
exhaust.

and probably some little bullshit here and there

limegreentj
09-09-2010, 08:55 PM
so im kinda pissed...i dont know if anyone is really following this anyway...lol

but im pissed because i put the engine in, and was getting ready to throw the intake on today and get it running saturday morning....it coulda been done....but, i realized that the ****ing head had the rear exhaust manifold stud broke off...of course its the one in the back and i couldnt get to it, so i decided to take the other head (which looks healthier anyway) and bolt it up. i go to the auto parts store to get what i need, i needed a 13mm multi point deep socket....that was the only one they were out of, of course. so i bought the head gasket and the head bolts ( i might not have needed them, but dont wanna pull the head cuz it leaks then spend another 20 on another head gasket and then another 33 on the bolt kit) 65 ****in dollars later and i feel like i got shit done today. this week is turning out to suck balls. i thought it would be a lot better...oh well...it oughta run next week, or maybe saturday if i bust my nuts all day saturday.

Dick.Breakey
09-09-2010, 10:09 PM
