after some consideration, planning, lots of parts sales and finding some good deals, this is happening now rather than over the next winter like it was supposed to.

i picked up a set of dana 60's, hp king pin ford front and a rear with 5.13 gears already installed, ballistic rear disk brackets brand new front calipers and rotors.

then i picked up a pair of arb air lockers, one new, and one NIB for a good price. then i got a complete outer setup in good cond with highsteer arms and an extra set of shafts. so i put the axles together and figured on swapping in the fall.

http://forums.hrja.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=4670&d=1277062097

i sold my iroks, and was just about to order a set of chromo shafts when i found a set of 40" maxxis creepy comp stickies on 17" allied double beadlocks, so there went that $$$ but i got tires to run

http://forums.hrja.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=4674&d=1277062473

then a guy bought my old axle combo. so the new ones are goin in. had to outboard the front springs, and i put ballistic frenched hangers on all four corners since the wear and tear was taking its toll on the stock cj spring hangers. i stretched the rear 2" and the front 1.5" working on the outboard brackets now, almost done just needs some extra gussehttp://forums.hrja.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=4681&d=1277062877thttp://forums.hrja.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=4680&d=1277062843ihttp://forums.hrja.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=4679&d=1277062812nhttp://forums.hrja.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=4678&d=1277062785ghttp://forums.hrja.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=4677&d=1277062750.http://forums.hrja.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=4672&d=1277062162

gotta flip my d300a, and do a bunch of figuring, but its coming together so far. i need to order ubolts and plates as i am about ready to bolt the axles in.

once again, i have to reiterate that i LOATHE ajs glass bodies. the body appears crooked here, after much measuring, cross measuring, squaring, etc. the frame is sitting correctly and not bent as i had originally thought. it is a poorly made body

Since we finally found out yesterday if it would be a boy or a girl (it's a girl!) I'm in totally Daddy mode. How old is your helper? I can't wait until our 21 month old is old enough / big enough to help in the garage! She already LOVES the Jeep, to the point that she starts crying if we have to take Mommy's car :) Mommy is not pleased about that right now.

Im really interested to see how well your frame holds up to the weight of those 60's. I have a pair myselft, but dont feel comfortable slinging them under the CJ.

highlandercj-7
06-28-2010, 06:26 AM
Sling away. If the frame is solid you won't have any issues. There are alot of folks running CJ's with 60's even roc's without issues.

i dont think it would be a problem at all. the front axle is not a whole lot heavier than the 44 i took out. front ford 60 fully dressed weighs in at 480# as per the d60 bible on pirate. the 44 i took out of mine fully dressed when i checked it for shipping was 437#. plus, as rod said, people have been running these on cjs for years, i personally know a few and exen a few xj's with 60s on the unibody with no detrimental issues. sling away man!

That's how mine is. I went over to my parents to cut their grass yesterday while my step dad is gone. I got the Kubota loaded up on the trailer and went a few hundred feet down the road to get it all turned around. My Mom said Riley (the 21 mo) was absolutely losing it, until I parked and got out at which point she was fine.

Hopefully she will like the new Duramax since the Jeep is going to no longer be the DD. I don't think it's going to happen like that though.

dan58
08-04-2010, 10:58 PM
Looks good. I sat at 24" belly with SOA. I'm still there with the COs. Just wait till you stretch the wheelbase...it only gets better. :D

justin'sbig7
08-05-2010, 09:21 AM
I stretched it about 4", after seein a few stretched rigs have more trouble turning wise, I don't think I want to go much further

It is a very different machine now. I am very happy with it and also the stability. I'd give it two thumbs up

dan58
08-05-2010, 09:42 AM
Not stability...climbing! :D Stretch that baby another 6 inches! lol You have 60s now. Front dig, brother! No need to use rear until you need it. Turning becomes a non-issue. Run in front-low in the woods and use the brakes to dig around trees and such. You'll be amazed at how well it works. Even with the tight trails at RR, you'll be loving it. You can run all of Sidewinder in FWD without even hitting reverse once. It really works that well once you get the hang of it. Your ARBs will make it even better. Are you planning to plumb in cutting brakes for the rear?

ya justin, just drop it off somewhere and pick it up later and maybe it'll be magically stretched! :D

after a few runs i had to fix some cooling issues. the 5.13's are not low enough so the engine works harder at low rpms and speeds (wide open its fine lol!). had to relocate the trans coolers and put them on their own cooling fan and removed the inner fenders.

this thing climbs like a billygoat though!
