Well here we are yet again. Last winter I did the H/G on the pickup and for the past 20k she's been doing just fine until this past weekend. I believe the head is bad it did the exact same thing as last year, blowing white smoke but no milkshake.

We were heading out to Rausch Creek for the weekend and were 50 miles from home when it went out. So I dumped a gallon of water in her and headed home. I had to stop 3 more times, kept an eye on the temp, and added a gallon each time.

Thanks honey...

Not a fun 50 mile trek home but I can't say she left me stranded. So for the trip we unpacked the truck, unloaded the trailer, repacked the trailer and 3 of us crammed into a Jeep for a 6 hour drive.

Last night I messed with the truck a bit and started to break it down. She did fire up and idled fine but then started to do the milkshake.

So I drained the oil and dad and I started into it. Got the P/S pump off, Rad out, upper intake, AFM, fuel rail out. Lower intake and exhaust manifold are loose. Not bad for 1.5 hours!!! Goes much faster the second time around.

Plugs didn't seem all that bad...

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1511.jpg

So I thought about it and contacted Ted and gave him a parts list so I could get a price. Going with new head (thinking RV) T-chain kit and cover, oil pump, water pump. Sending the injectors out to WitchHunter as well.

I figured if I'm in there again may as well do it all...I don't want to be in there again in another 20k-30k for a pump or timing cover. And I did break off the top of the timing guide last time I was in there.

I did break the crank bolt using the starter...just 1 little bump and off it came.

Since 92_Toy has all this documented I'll just follow his build thread. http://www.yotatech.com/f116/92-toy-s-22re-crapped-out-gotta-start-somewhere-thread-188472

I'm so excited I think I peed a little

Tomorrow is going to be cleaning and prepping for the install for Sat. pic's to follow...

Ok I guess I got to explain a bit more...

I don't have the pic's of the removal...

Intake, gone; exhaust, gone; head, gone; water pump, gone; oil pump gone; timing cover, gone; oil pan, gone.

The crank bolt gave me no trouble, starter trick and the pulleys came right off with a puller. Didn't even budge the motor taking the pulley off.

As for the oil pan, I lifted the motor. I used a 2x4 a ratchet strap and it came right up. I had to pull the steering dampener and remove the pickup but it came out ok.

Tomorrow evening is all clean up and then Sat the rebuild begins. If all goes well I'll have her running Sat if not then def Sunday. I still have to finish my battery swap too.

Ok I just got home and getting a bit to eat.

Got the oil pan cleaned and ready to install and have the head cover as clean as it's going to get. The screen on the pickup look just fine and if you look close enough you can see the bits of the timing chain guard.

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1544.jpg

This is how I got the oil pan out...loosened up the 2 small bolts on the passenger side and the 1 big one on the drivers side engine mount. Grabbed a 2x4 and a ratchet strap and up it came.

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1538.jpg

Pan out!!! Also had to remove the steering dampener.

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1539.jpg

So I could not stop myself so I messed with the new head a bit.

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1545.jpg

Ain't that all purdy like???

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1546.jpg

In goes the 268 again...

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1547.jpg

So tomorrow first off in goes the pan and the sump gets installed then the pan gets gooped and installed. I want this to go in first since it has to dry.

Then on goes the front stuff then the top stuff then the side stuff and if all goes well it will be a turn-key evening. If I run out of time tomorrow I'll have her running Sunday at the latest if all goes well.

So that's my 48 hour plan!!!

Ok so I got a bit of a late start today...about 9:30-10:00 we actually stared in on it. Dad cleaned the head bolts (Ted said they were alright to reuse) I installed the oil pan and pickup. We used the FPIG and that stuff really makes a mess!!! I don't like it but it did the job.

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1550.jpg

Timing chain and rails installed.

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1554.jpg

Cover and pumps installed...and yes I did use the Vasiline trick for the oil pump. I had dad prime the pump!!! :bounce:

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1555.jpg

Trusty cam sprocket holder.

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1556.jpg

Nice shiny new head installed!!! Yeah for me!!!

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1557.jpg

Here you can see we have the front of the motor done and the P/S pump installed. My pap (89 years young) helping us out. He was the tool guy, the light guy, and the guy that stopped dad and I from yellin at each other. Props for my PaPa!!! :bowdown2:

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1560.jpg

The next few are of the swap of the battery and the intake wiring mess...I still have to build a proper tray for the battery but it's secure for now, and yes it's bolted in.

http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/lumpy_91/Pickup/DSCF1566.jpg

I did have 1 issue that I know of...I lined up the distributor with the wrong thing. I lined it up with the plug that goes to the coil rather than the one coming out of the dist. So that ate up 45 minutes of me being dumb. And then the battery needed help so that's why the charger is out.

So if was not for my timing mistake she would have fired on the first time. But after we figured that out I was off by 1 tooth and we were golden..

The test drive was good and I think I still have to mess with the timing but I can tell ya from the seat dyno she's doing better. I didn't have to shift as much. Right now I don't really notice so much in 1 and 2 but in 3,4,5 I can tell she's pulls much harder. Once I get past the 500 mile mark and redo the valves and get the timing where I want it, o man look out!!!

Just happy that I have her back!!!

Cool, looks like things came together fairly quick.
