I actually have a really good book on making bug out bags for different situations. Like if you had to leave on foot, on motorcycle, or by car. With suggestions on what should go in them and what is overkill.

Basically if you could grab one bag and leave everything else what would be in it? Could you carry it etc. That type of thing.

I already have the gun. I just need the painted piece of 6" PVC with end caps.

If you don't mind, what is the name of that book. I would be very interested. Thanks.

the first thing i would do is grab my cell phone, gun and keys to the jeep.
someone told me that they sell those water proof gun cases at Dick's

Cell phone will be useless if there is a situation, the cellular can be jammed or disabled quite easily. Be better off with a Ham type radio. It is very difficult to nearly impossible to jam communications on a CB or HAM radio. I have a ditch bag in the Jeep if I have to ditch the Jeep in a situation. I also have a situation bag as I call it packed and ready to go in the basement for a broad range of situations.

Don't even get me started on bug out bags (BOBs) and 7 day bags and get out of dodge (GOOD) bags. I'll refer anyone with even mild interest in this topic to my favorite daily blog - survivalblog.com

Speaking of communications, I was looking at the Uniden Bear Cat Scanner with Trunk Tracking ($158 on Amazon) last night. Anyone have any experience with scanners?

I know right about where that fella was, there are some yayhoos up there for sure. Only a few 5th wheel camper style trailers in that area. That is way back off the beaten path, and you gotta be a lil crazy to run up there solo in weather like that, I'd be reluctant to take a group of 5 well prepared individuals and rigs up into that area in those conditions.

Dude when the end of the world comes I am finding a good view, taking a cooler of PBR, and a comfy chair.

Oh I'll be like Chuck Norris in Lone Wolf McQuade pouring PBR all over myself and driving my XJ out of a grave to take on David Carradine and the bad guys that are taking over the world!

Yeah me too. He was into the off-roading thing pretty heavy for a while then just disappeared.

You could always sit in your stinger in a bikini watching the world come to an end.

My Jeep always has a full change of clothes, extra mags and ammo for my carry weapon, tow straps, flashlights, a small tool kit, gloves, a tossel cap, extra boots, lighters, a blanket, at least one knife, and rope.

When I wheel, I take the back seat out (as long as it is not needed for passengers) and stuff in heavy chain, a larger tool kit, chain come along, ratchet straps, a bit of wood (for fire starting), a well stocked (thanks to my nurse friends) first aid kit, and some form of drinks, can't say water, because it's not always water I carry. If I am going to a trail after a big storm or one I know is not traveled often, I sometimes take a chainsaw to clear the trails of fallen trees. If I were, and I haven't yet, to put myself in a situation where I am at risk of being stranded for days, I have a couple cases of MRE's in the basement, a hunting rifle would be added also, an axe, flare gun, and water purification filters and tablets.

Some things seem like overkill to me, and just take up too much space. A chem suit, gasmask, chemical weapons detector? Paranoid much?

I keep my survival kit at home.
It comes in 10 different calibers, with and without optics.
