I have searched other forums and really found nothing helpful. So I am asking for ya'lls help.

BTW, THIS IS MY FAVORITE FORUM BY FAR.

here is my need:

Put on your thinking caps.

As you may know we have removed the stock doors on the XJ. But we have added soft doors. Unfortunitly the mirrors are now gone. Since we want to achieve a show & go jeep we are trying to come up with a solution that looks good & is functional.
Since the soft doors are on we cannot use the hinges.

In the past I ordered a set of LANGE mirrors and screwed then to the fenders, But the passenger side mirror was out of site & the drivers side vibrated to much to use. However it passed inspection.

if you see an idea that may work / looks good & is functional or think of something please share.

i might investigate some motorcycle mirrors, they are designed to clamp onto tubing and are meant for a high vibration situation. plus the sky is the limit on size and style.

I would cut a lenght of tube in half length wise. Use it to to cover the a pillars on the exterior to help protect the windshield "frame". Then weld a small diameter tube onto that and place motorcycle mirrors in them. They could easily be removed, folded, etc.

I think that i mentioned this at the shop before, but why not mount a mirror off of the roof rack with some sort of tube clamp that would be easily removed when you get to the trail?

That is what I was thinking Jeff, that would be real simple to do.

It's scary when you and I think alike.

i think both are good ideas. i like mykal's better though, if you are looking for the show and go type i think covering up the hinge area on the "frame" would give it an over all cleaner look. but instead of half a tube to cover it. maybe some type of removable sheetmetal cover.

I like the ideas of making a bracket for the Windshield post and somehow connecting mirrors to them.

With that in mind I examined the snorkel mount.

Mykal & Ezman is this what you had in mind? If this is, I can somehow connect a mirror. Then for the passenger side make the reverse of the bracket.

THOUGHTS

I am looking through different Motorcycle mirrors. I also agree with Jim, & am leaning toward the simple CJ style. Some of the early Harlley mirrors are the same shape, just a tad smaller.

Still contemplating & am open to your input.

That would work as well. I was basically saying to "sleeve" the a pillar from top to bottom then attach a small diameter pipe to it to slid a motorcycle mirror into it. The "sleeve" would protect the a pillar in the long run as well.

Simple is good, do not over think this.

I am embarrassed I cannot picture what you are suggesting. I am totally wanting simple. Will the snorkel interfere w/ your suggestion?

Imagine a pipe. Circular in shape measured to the same length of the a pillar. - 0 (if you are looking into the pipe like a telescope.)
Imagine cutting that circular pipe length wise and looking at it the same way. - ( (You would now have half of the diameter of the pipe) One for each A pillar.
Lay that half moon pipe on the A pillar.

Damn, I suck at explaining. Where the hell is Gabe and his MS Paint diagram? Guess Ill have to try.
This help at all to explain what I mean by sleeving the A pillar? Then weld a small diameter tube onto that sleeve that will let you slip a motorcycle mirror into.
