Tuesday, March 08, 2011 Earlier today, the Pennsylvania Senate voted 43 to 4 to pass important self-defense reform legislation. Senate Bill 273 (http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/billinfo/billinfo.cfm?syear=2011&sind=0&body=S&type=B&BN=0273), Castle Doctrine legislation, reintroduced by state Senator Richard Alloway, II (R-33), would allow law-abiding citizens to use force, including deadly force, against an attacker in their home and any place outside of their home where they have a legal right to be. If enacted, this law would also protect individuals from civil lawsuits by the attacker or the attacker’s family when force is used.

Please send an e-mail to thank your state Senator for supporting SB 273. Law-abiding gun owners of Pennsylvania should not be treated like criminals, because they choose to exercise their Second Amendment rights. For contact information or help identifying your state Senator, please click here (http://www.capwiz.com/nra/state/main/?state=PA&view=myofficials).

These state Senators voted AGAINST SB 273 and your right to self-defense:
Senator Lawrence Farnese (D-1)
Senator Vincent Hughes (D-7)
Senator Shirley Kitchen (D-3)
Senator Christine Tartaglione (D-2)

SB 273 will now move to the House for consideration. A House Committee hearing date has not been set for this important legislation.

:026: Got the message yesterday also. Maybe we'll get lucky and this will be signed by Corbett by summer.

Earlier this afternoon, attempts to attach anti-gun amendments to House Bill 40 were defeated. The so-called “Florida Loophole” was once again defeated by a 140 to 50 vote, after which three anti-gun amendments were withdrawn.
*
Introduced by state Representative Scott Perry (R-92), House Bill 40, NRA-backed Castle Doctrine legislation, would permit law-abiding citizens to use force, including deadly force, against an attacker in their home and any place outside of their home where they have a legal right to be.* If enacted into law,*it would also protect individuals from civil lawsuits by the attacker or the attacker’s family when force is used.
*
Law-abiding gun owners of Pennsylvania should not be treated like criminals because they choose to exercise their Second Amendment rights.
*
The state House will be returning in April to give final consideration to HB 40. In the meantime, please contact your state Representative and urge him or her to support HB 40 with NO amendments. For contact information or help identifying your state Representative, click here.*
