Well rather than make a new post everytime I find a new car to ask questions about it I figured I would make a thread.

I am looking for a car that gets good mileage that is all. Cheap, do to some other issues I don't have a lot of money to spend on a car right now. My Ideal price range is 1000 dollars. My plan is to buy a car cheap, run it for 6 months maybe longer if it proves to be a champ and save some more money from the gas Ill save to buy a nicer DD. I spend over 600 dollars in gas for my truck, a little car getting 30 on the highway will cut that in half. So ill save a good bit of money. Anyway.

I found a toyota tercel with 160,000 miles on it thoughts ? Looking online these cars seem to be little tanks. I know its ugly, slow, uncomfortable, but it should get great mileage and I hope semi reliable.

Friend of mine had a tercel with a 5spd, it was a gutless turd but it sipped fuel and never really left him stuck anywhere, it had some quirks but you could treat it like one of your scout's or a farm tractor, always able to rig something up to keep it going or get it home if something failed. :)

I bought a 1992 Caprice Wagon to save gas. 11mpg in my 06 Silverado 2500 vs 18mpg in the Caprice might not be a huge increase but its 7 passenger, can haul a sheet of plywood and the interior was spotless. The outside is nice, two tone and Impala SS wheels :) got it for $1000.

The 30mpg plus cars are going to sky rocket in price when gas goes up even more.

What about an older Mercedes Diesel? They are still "unknown" so the price is still fairly low. Guy across the street from my shop run straight waste vegitable oil in his during the summer when temps are above XX degrees.

I found a car, 1995 Saturn SL 1.9 SOHC 5 speed. Should be good for atleast 30 mpg. Needs a fender and either a new hood or a BFH taken to the hood, Ill find out tomorrow. Runs good, no slippage in the clutch, good tires, hell it will get me to and from work. Bought it for 400 beans so I cant beat that. Probably have another 200 into it to get it thru inspection. Otherwise mechanically the car is pretty solid, 170,000 miles but only 100,000 on the motor and the clutch is new as well as a lot of other parts. For being a hoopty I kinda like it.
