Anyone interested in having a friendly little 22 lr competition? I'm in the mood for some cheap fun.

Suggested classes as follow:

Rifle with irons
Rifle with scope or other optics
Pistol

$5 buy into each class and best shot takes the whole pot for each class.

Range could be from 25-50 yards, possibly using Appleseed AQT targets to make it interesting (and easy to score!). Maybe best out of 3 so you could use more than one rifle if you desire. OR make it an elimination bracket. If we use Appleseed AQT targets, might as well make it Appleseed style: start shooting standing, then go to sitting, then prone. Possibly timed. No bi pods or rests. Slings ok. Mats could be provided.

I'm sure it's too cold for most of you anyways... :santa:

If we do it this month, no. In January...maybe...

January - I think i'd be in sometime that month! December is no bueno.

Only .22 I have is a S&W 15-22, still with stock iron sights, so that's what i would show up with.

10 rounds Standing in 2 minutes - possible 50 points

10 rounds Seated in 50 seconds with a mag change (load 2 & 8 or if your rifle doesn't allow that load 5 & 5)
5 rounds per target - possible 50 points

10 rounds Standing to Prone in 60 seconds with a mag change (same as above)
3 on first target, 3 on second, and 4 on last - possible 50 points

10 rounds Slowfire Prone in 5 minutes. No mag change necessary
2 on first target, 2 on second, 3 on third, and 3 on last - Double the score on this stage for 100 possible points.

Total clean score would be 250 points.

Since this is a Quick and Dirty AQT and uses only 40 rounds instead of the full blown AQT with 50, and also due to the smaller number of targets and NPOA shifts, it takes a score of 210 instead of 200 to qualify.

I probably wouldn't time it to keep things fun but rate of fire needs to be decent. No great white hunter taking all day BS.

Taking time to reload is fine. People just should be keeping a good shooting cadence without long pauses. Breath out, squeeze, breath in, repeat, or however you like.

I have spare 10/22 mags and 587 mags.

I shoot relics, like a 60's marlin glenfield bolt .22lr with factory installed scope :) LOL

Ha, for the iron sights class I'll pull out a Walther Sportmodell that is a WWII capture.

Never shot a setup like you described. Sounds pretty interesting and a fun way to throw some lead. Will there perhaps be an off chance for some time to just blow some sh*t up too? :)

I ask because I haven't had a chance to squeeze off any rounds out of my .35 Marlin lever in awhile, and have a couple boxes of Hornady Lever Evolution just beggin to hit something....

Anyway - possible dates?

There is always the time to hit the ole appliances. I scrapped the car for some cash for the person that donated it to the range but you're welcome to bring old appliances or anything.

I'm thinking January. December is all booked for me.

Closer to New Years we'll pick a weekend.

The first weekend of the New Year I have to make a army truck parts run to MD so that weekend is out. Everything else is open for me.

^ LOL!!

Can't make any promises but I'll try to keep the shots towards the back. I have an old stove - full sized (propane) from my camp that is just sitting around. Still works but has tried to kill me a few times so I tore it out. If I get a chance i'll haul it back down to Pittsburgh for possible demolition targeting.

Anyway, yeah figure out sometime in January, can pick a weekend in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for the idea Josh!

I could be up for this, but my reloading takes time. My .22 rifle is an old Mossberg with a tube magazine and 2x weaver scope... Not sure how accurate my .22 pistol is, but can practice prior to the event.

Strong maybe for January.

At an appleseed shoot a guy shooting next to me with a tube magazine 22 was using "speed loaders" he made at home out of small pieces of what looked like white PVC pipe with a 1/4" ID or so, and they had little caps. Cool set up.

Can I join?

Sure. Caliber is kind of irrelevant. It's about skill. Making it for 22's is about keeping it cheap for everyone.

Are we thinking a Saturday or Sunday? I'm in but Sundays are easier than Saturdays for me to get away. Either way I'm going to make an effort to get to this.

Just a little Tactical Solutions .22LR trainer I built on a Precision Aero lower, as an economical alternative to my 5.56 AR's - which cost a TON more to shoot. Keeps ye olde trigger discipline & hand/eye coordination sharp, while on a budget. :080:

Last weekend I had to work, this coming weekend I'm running to maryland for deuce and a half parts, and the weekend of the 21st I'm pretty sure I'll be working. No outlook for the 28th.

I still want to do this though!
