Just to be fair, in the world of dual sport bikes, the Honda XR/XL is the best off the road and the Kawasaki KLR is the best on the road. Everything else falls in between.

The KLR will go offroad, but you'll find first gear isn't low enough, and it is a little top heavy and awkward. The few trails I have taken it on were a bit more challenging.

I'm just saying, don't expect it to be an excellent dirtbike. It is a fair dirtbike. It is an excellent street bike. It cruises at 70 mph with traffic just fine. It even gets to 70 mph kind of quickly. Not bad for a single cylinder. I got about 45 mpg with the big aluminum panniers. 200 miles on a tank before I switch to reserve and look for a gas station to fill up.

Edit: My first statement is a lie. bike's like the BMW GS, Suzuki Vstrom, or Triumph Tiger are better on the road and kind of considered "dual sport" but I was talking about a specific price range and type of bike. I thought I would throw that out before I got called on it.

honestly i'd be using it more for fire roads and that type of thing than a straight up dirt bike.

Think it's big enough to cart me around?

I am about 6'2", 250 soaking wet.

Not a big difference. I know I'm making up that 20 lb difference in tools and stuff in the panniers.

Heck I even ride on and offroad with a girl on the back

You would be fine.

ok cool. I've been looking at chad's yamaha Vmax too... but i think i'm less likely to kill myself on a dual sport lol

That KLR would be perfect for you Ryan. I'm currently looking for a dualsport as well, can't find anything cheap enough for my taste. If I had the money I'd have already bought Josh's bike LOL

I think you should buy it... becasue with your purchase you will be supporting Josh's offroad hobby, ammunition stock piles, overall prepping status, and helping him increase his waste oil refinning cabablitiles.

I am not a biker, but dabbled I say go for it- Josh is a stand up guy and sorta squierrely in a good way so you know how it was maintained. Besides I was thinking about buying a beater/fix up dual purpose bike as prep supply. With that being said I very well can't tell you not to get it if I know I would get it if had the coin for such a nice bike.

Actually, I'm picking up a used bike, equal value, so no positive cash flow coming from this sale. I hope to break even!

The bike I'm changing to is a surprise...

You know the KLR got frequent oil changes, because I can't wait to get that old oil out and into the truck's fuel tank.

Supermotos were sooooo 2010, adventure tourers are the the in thing now. Quick and agile on the street and offroad capable. A DRZ400SM or WR250X suck for riding over 55 mph. At Josh's price you can't go wrong.

Super Teneres are the best but I'm a little biased....

I had Tom hunting for a DRZ400SM for me when I was looking at dual sports after I sold my Ninja. I ended up picking the KLR because the DRZ400SM was so hard to find, and the KLR was a better highway bike which is what I ride the most. No regrets.

i'm a little all over the place. trying to stay away from a full on street bike though
