so, i'm looking for a new mountain bike. my walmart bike of 10 years or better has seen better days. second gear just slips on the hub, and the shocks are more like springs, it is full suspension and was about $160 then.

i don't ride much but it would be used in the woods on trails and just general playing around.

i stopped on route 8 in gibsonia at the schwin dealer and checked out the lowest end GT bike , the aggressor, for $455 . i keep looking at dicks sporting goods bikes, being i have a $100 gift card to knock some cost down. i'd like at least front suspension.

anyone have any decent ones for sale? how are the $300 - $500 bikes at Dicks? i would think since my walmart bike lasted so long it would at least be that good?

I got a Realm (or how ever it's spelled) low end Diamondback from Dicks three years ago on clearance for $100 something. It's been a good bike so far.

I saw that bike in person and love it. If I had the cash I'd be all over it. Its a nicely built bike.

Matt that's a slick bike. A bit more then i wanted to spend though.

Sycotic-I looked up that site. There's some deals on there and some decent looking bikes but not sure about the off brand ones.

Not quite. But I saw them well under a grand.

When they were new it was around $1600.

Diamondback is weird because it's a dept store bike. That's why there's no
Price on bike pedia. The parts on it aren't bad though. But pricing was all over. A lot of people paid well under a grand for them new even though the tag says 1600

It'd be a good beginner downhiller free ride bike.

If you're looking for a good full squish less than 600 bucks look for a gt I drive. No matter what though. Anything below 600 bucks is going to be pretty entry level. I sold my Jekyll for about that and the guy thought I was giving him a screaming deal. And that was a 2000

I personally ride a nashbar bike. I have the full rigid 29er single speed. I'm exceptionally happy with it. keep in mind generally the only no name brand part is the frame on the bikes. I know a couple people with other nashbar bikes and they are happy. I too was skeptical at first about them until two of my friends bought the 29ers and I rode it. That sealed the deal for me. If you want to spend more money that prophet would be a fun bike.

Did he make another thread at some point? A couple of month's ago someone emailed me saying it was only 299 new, and that seemed legit, until I realized the components on the bikes he linked were completely different. My asking price is $600, but with how quickly I'm running out of space, cash talks, obviously, same with the Samurai. Before August I won't have room for either.

Actually tempting, but with running out of space, I think I'm going to stick to my hybrid street/rails to trails bike for a few years. We're living in my future in-laws basement saving cash to build a house to our specs, not the time for hobby stuff sitting around!

Ya there's another thread on there.

It probably is a similar looking bike with different components.

Matt your thread didn't have the model name or anything. The specs on it are in the bike pedia link I posted. The Hayes nine brakes would have been 150 apiece back in 06. So it wasn't a 300 dollar bike.

Well, had the bike for almost 3 months. Time for an upgrade, should have spent more to start with. Ive replaced many parts already, shifters, derailers, ect.
