View Full Version : Ammo prices, as good as it gets.

Since ammo prices will be getting worse and suppliers selling out, stocking up now is a good idea if you have the means. I'm going to post some of the best deals going that I have found today. Those ammo price search engines don't always factor in the right shipping or search for coupons.

have you shot the wolf ammo? I get a shit ton of FTF and feed issues from the wolf, but the brown bear works great. i just ordered a thousand from SG. i need to pick up a few cases of .40

I have shot a LOT of wolf, tula, and herters, and never once EVER have I had a FTF. So you had evidence of a primer strike with a mark from the firing pin and no bang? Maybe a slightly weak hammer spring? Also I have never ever had a feed issue, EVER, in any of my AK type weapons. I have heard some have trouble feeding the HP ammo from wolf but the FMJs should never give you trouble. That would most likely be a mag issue. I also use the 308 Wolf and never ever a problem with that stuff either.

The two places I found the best prices on that were Dick's when they were having a random sale around this time of year and out at Joel Etchens, the high end shotgun dealer, on Rt 30 between Ligonier and Laughlintown surprisingly. I guess when the sell $10k shotguns they don't sweat marking up their ammo too much.

Pretty much the same thing here. The last handful of times I've been to the range I brought only my handgun...the rifles stayed in the safe. I'll be going up to my buddies camp and I'll have my 22 and my pistola with me, but I doubt I'll be shooting the pistol very much.

If I was going to stock up I'd only buy .40 and .22 since thats what I'd shoot the most of. I have 2 unopened spam cans of x54r and a case of x39 in the safe with their rifles.

Anybody shoot remanufactured rounds? My normal go to sites are all sold out of the cheap range ammo and I refuse to buy the other shit to kill paper with.

I was thinking about going with either Great Lakes or Freedom, both are ~260 for 1000 rounds shipped.

Alright, I think me and the old man are going to take a trip up there saturday morning. I called yesterday and the lady said they would take brass in any caliber as long as it was all sorted out by caliber (:021: thats gonna take a lil while), I guess mixed calibers jam their machine or something.

I told her I was going to be mainly turning in .45 acp casings and she said they will only take them if they have large primers? I didn't know there were different sized primers? Anyone know anything about this?

joshs1ofakindxj
11-15-2012, 02:29 PM
Can they fill your order on the spot? The website makes it sound like they have a backlog.

HeepH8erTy
11-15-2012, 05:44 PM
By the way our conversation went, here was my understanding: bring the sorted brass, they weight it, you pick what you want to buy, they discount you for what you gave them, then you're out. The website does sound that way though. I may call again to verify.

The only thing that caught my eye is the 1000 rounds of bulk Remington UMC 9mm for $199 at Gander Mt, third to last page, bottom right. That is the about the same as the stuff I posted before at SG Ammo but you can pick it up at the store. Hopefully they have enough to sell. With tax that is about $212.

In the past few years companies have been making .45 ACP with both small and large primers. The only way that I know to check is to visually inspect them to sort them.

It's available, it just isn't cheap. Sportsman Supply on 356 has enough to take over a banana republic. They won't sell it to their walk in customers. You have to bid for it on gunbroker or auction arms. I'm all for capitalism, but I'd imagine that these guys are alienating their local base.

screw that. cabellas had 350 rounds of 557 for 139. and you could buy 5 boxes. I bought 1 of those and 4 boxes of .223 for 7 bucks a box ($7 per 20 rounds).

no f'ing way would I pay anywhere near .89 a round. walmart has wolf steel case right now for like 5 or 6 bucks a box... at least they did the other night.

Glad you found some better deals, thanks for the tip. I'm happy with the Lake City 556. Shoots clean and straight and I save my brass, so I'm not overly bent about the price, certainly not enough to curse about. They had it when I had time to look....which Cabela's did not at the time, and I just checked now and they have none (556) at the moment. Some 223 but it's all the $20 a box of 20 and up stuff, so 100 rounds for $89 is cheaper. I'll overpay from time to time, sure. Maybe I did this time but I'm ok with a quality product, and I'm lazy.

if you're looking online that's no good. you have to run by the store now and then.

Yeah I've been mostly just online shopping. I did a double check and I actually paid $79 for the 556, not $89. Still too much, I know. For as much as I shoot my AR I guess it's not huge for me (maybe 200 rounds a month) & I don't shoot steel out of the AR. I do most of my practice with my M&P 15-22. I wish .22LR bulk was a little easier to get. I did nab some PPU from GunAuction.com. I've found a few decent deals on the auction sites.

In person, I've stopped in Big Bucks (I know) and a few other places but my timing sucks apparently as the only thing I found was 556/223 for $40 for 50 round bags at BB. So still not cheap. I tried Wal Mart in Titusville and struck out. I can't ever get anybody at Dunham's to even come to the gun counter, so I kinda have a personal ban on them.

Which Wal Mart are you finding ammo? Maybe I'll try the one in Gibsonia on the way home.

Justin, care to share your source? We talking bulk or by the 20 round box?

Was out at Grice gun shop in Clearfield this weekend, they do have some things in stock. Brick of CCI small rifle primers were 34.99, seemed to have a decent selection of IMR and Hodgen powder. .45 auto was $27.99, .38 special $24.99, 7.62x39 $7.99, few different .223 starting at $11.99. No 22lr to be seen. Bob's prices were high on some ammo, so didn't check prices on much there. Not the selection like there usually is, but we all somehow managed to come home with another gun.

This is a test to show some of the higherups the effectiveness of such contests. Word on the street is that there is a case of 9mm coming next.

Primer prices are the biggest suck right now. $60-$75 per 1000 is a deal.

Any of you guys order from Steelcity ammo company at all? Supposedly really good prices and always posting pallets of ammo. I believe they are or were around Neville Island area. Thought I read something about a new location?

On Friday Biden announced a 1 year ban on importation of Russian made guns and ammo. This could impact 40% of the total ammo sold on the US market, but it's still kind of unclear at this point what ammo actually is made in Russia or is made in other countries and sold as Russian. Regardless, Wolf, Tula, Barnaul, and commie surplus ammo saw an increase in price and decrease in availability over the weekend, which sucks considering prices were trending down. This was meant to penalize the Russian government. Uh hu.
