I just pulled the rear on my 94 ford ranger with an 8.8 LS...I popped the clips out that look like S clips but I guess are wave clips. I put them back the way I thought they were supposed to go,well guess what it was wrong and it spit'em out and chewed'em up. didn't do any other damage. first, how the heck do they go in or are the even needed?

They're C-clips. They're needed to hold the axles in.

The s spring preloads the clutches for the limited slip. If you want it to work like a posi, it is needed. You can find info online under ford 8.8
