I used to buy champion plugs for the 4.0 in my XJ but they are no longer available so I've been using NGK. The price seemed to increase lately and now they are $4.50 each. I was looking for a cheaper alternative, comparable to the old champions, and came across the ACDELCO brand. Do you think the 4.0 will spit these out? I've had zero luck with anything other than champions and NGKs but I hate paying almost 5 bucks a plug.

I avoid Champion, never had good luck with them. ACDelco have performed well for me.
I use NGK in my small engines and been happy.

All I can say about this is that the only plugs I had trouble with, ever, were Champion. YMMV

Well I've used champions in my first 2000 TJ (2.5), the 01 XJ (4.0), and the newish 99 TJ (2.5) and they never gave me any issues so I kinda like em.

I came across some info from Jerry Bransford on wranglerforum:

"Conventional spark plugs like the NGKs will work fine in the newer DIS engines but they will erode their spark plug gap at twice the rate on a newer DIS engine as they would in an older engine. That simply means a conventional spark plug will only last half as long in a DIS-equipped 4.0L engine made 2000 and later than it would in an older engine. That's why I don't recommend any conventional spark plugs in newer 4.0L engines. Dual-tipped platinum or the latest iridium tipped spark plugs will easily exceed 100K miles without spark plug gap growth which means the engine will run well on the same set of dual-tipped platinum or iridium tipped plugs for 100k miles. Conventional plugs will typically only get 15-20K miles before needing to be replaced."

This kinda changed my mind about using the cheaper conventional plugs in the dist-less 4.0.

I run NGK in my imports (well just 1 now) and ACDelcos in my domestics. Only think I would put a Champion in is my neighbors lawn mower... I'm currently not a big fan of my neighbor

Always ran the cheapest Champion plugs in all my jeeps. Never a single problem. I run ACDelco in the avalanche, Bosch in the BMW, and NGK in the Honda. Ta daaaaa.

Funny, the trouble I've usually had, and my friends have had, were with their premium/whatever they're calling it these days plugs. I never had trouble with the cheap ones either.

Rockauto has champion plugs for the 4.0 for $1.72 a piece. I always check there for stuff. They are usually cheaper shipped to my door than any of the local part stores, and they have freaking everything.

Cant figure out how to post a link to the exact thing I was looking at, but the description for it is: "CHAMPION Part # 412 {#RC12LYC} Copper Plus"

I used to run Champions, never personally had any issues but stopped when I read about problems. FWIW do a little research, NGK makes a lot of the Acdelco plugs, in some cases the part numbers are identical.

Standard AC Delco are hotter plugs than most "performance" plugs. I run them in everything I can buy them to fit. If I can't get them Champion is my next choice. NGK is my choice for snowmobiles quads etc.

I put ngks in everything I own. Do not put Bosch platinum a in anything except a dumpster.

^ LOL We have never run anything but Champion plugs in the cars and trucks, NGK in the bikes, and Bosch/Champion in the saws...no plug problems EVER. My dad never had a problem with a Champion plug and thats goin back 30 plus years of spark plug running, only issues were Autolite for my family...

The 412's are what I ran in the 4.0 and now the 304. Never had a problem. They're the discontinued "truck plug" iirc.

That's what is in my 4.0 thing runs like a top still with over 220k on her, starting to fell like it's getting just a little tired though, likely needs the glaze broke on the cylinders and another set of rings....

If you're looking for 412 Champion plugs, I have 6 of 'em sitting right here. They were originally bought for a 98 XJ but never used. $5 and they are yours.

I ended up ordering the Champion 7034 Double Platinum Plugs from Pepboys in cranberry. They were the only ones that had em locally. I chose double platinum cuz of my distributor-less 4.0.

The only benefit to platnum or anything other than copper, is the service life. This is due to the yuppies not knowing how to change a spark plug as well as some vehicles not having access to the freakin spark plugs. Copper actually conduct better but don't last as long. Just a heads up.

They're also a marketing gimmick.

I always ran the Champion truck plugs in my 4.0. I never had an issue. I tried the stupid expensive NGK plantiums (at $8 a pop) in my race motor. Didn't make a lick of difference over the regular NGKs, other than lightening my wallet.
