View Full Version : Moog from China?

I was doing a little research on ball joints and came across a couple threads of people buying moog joints and it saying Made in China on the box. I always thought moog was a USA brand.

Somehow ALL four of my ball joints are failing. I got some nice lovely clunking that's clearly from the ball joints but am fortunate that the ball joints have not done any damage to my tires. All four are wearing perfectly even.

Since I'm selling this XJ soon, I want to replace the joints with something of quality so the next owner doesn't have to deal with them. Should I stick with Moog or maybe the Alloy USA HD ball joints ($220 from 4wd)? Anyone have experience with Alloy's?

I found the Alloy USA ball joints for $140/$118 at Serious Off Road and Amazon. I guess those deals are too good to pass up.

Why not put spicer bj's in there? The Spicer ones hold up for quit awhile from the factory

I will admit I should've done this. My alloy usa ball joints are toast. They are clunking like mad, almost as if they are broken. It hasn't been two years and only 15-some thousand miles. So fail......

I wouldn't be surprised if they warranty them? Send them an email.

Done. It says five year warranty so I hope they honor it.

I run Moog on everything, never had an issue. Lifetime warranty, so fawk it. I think the spicers are made in China too. 140 bucks for a ball joint is insanity.

It was $140 for all four. Spicers are $110 for all four.

Well they are going to honor the warranty. At first they said that there probably isn't enough grease in them and then said that there is always a little bit of play in the ball joints and I'm betting they mean the up and down play, not side to side. After I told them my jeep is all over the road then they realized they are bad.

Dunno what I will do with the warrantied set since I already ordered spicers.

Josh I did one set of Ball Joints in my old XJ with all that nasty wheeling on heavy bias tires. I don't understand all the ball joint issues people have.

They shipped em quickly and also paid for return shipping of defective parts. I feel pampered.

Now will I use em or not depends on if the spicer joints still fit.

I know it's to late. But I really like the new teraflex balljoints. They are pricey, and you have to make sure they are installed correctly. But they're also the nicest joints I've seen yet. An added bonus is that they are adjustable. So as they wear you can tighten up the spanner nut on the bottom balljoint to take up any play in them.

Yeah too late now and I also realized that spicer or non-knurled ball joints will no longer fit in my axle. The new spicers just drop right into the holes.

I've put maybe a couple hundred miles on the new Alloy BJ's and there's a clunk in the driver's side area somewhere. It just started developing a few days ago.

Teraflex also makes an oversized knurled version just for that situation.

For the TJ dana 30? The ones I was looking at were not knurled. I see the knurled set for the JK.
