Thinking about purchasing a 2003 Wrangler X.
4x4 6 Cyl.

Your opinions are welcomed. Do you recommend a different jeep model, year?
What's the best jeep model?
Is 6 Cyl efficient for off roading? Any tips for what to look for are welcomed.

Thanks in advanced.

You might want to be more specific on your questions... such as what you intend to do with it... That said, I cannot stop laughing at the first three replies

Haha, nice....

I mean, it's a jeep. They they hold their value, there's always tons of aftermarket, and the 6 cyl is as good as it gets with them. You can go a lot further into than that but then you'd need something else to compare it to.

Check the frame for rust.

What's one tons an 42s?

There are a few models to choose from CJ, TJ, X, SE and I don't know the deference between them. I am looking for a project, my buddy is going to help me put on a lift kit, so I wasn't looking to spend over $10,000. My goal is to be able to off road around the farm half the time Mostly logging/mining trails around the house but also be able to ride it on the road. I work from home so it would be mostly a weekend vehicle.

Thanks

the x has a dana 35 rear axle, if possible you should try to find one with a dana 44. granted I do not have any personal experience with a 35 failing, they are more likely to. Also they are more limited in how large of a tire size you can go. It is just as important to find something with no rust issues and is set up the way you want it (I4 or I6 engine, hard top, soft top, half doors, full doors).

You can get a really nice jeep for $10,000. I got my 2000 TJ for $9,500, and it came with a good lift and tires, upgraded steering, upgraded axles, re-gear, lockers, armor, roll cage, winch...

I bought my 03 for 10k. It needed some love but I sold the spare parts for like 3k. And it has a $5500 rear axle. A Kilby oba. And a 4000 dollar suspension. Not to mention the seats and cage and skids and bumpers and winch and....

my buddy has a nice 04 for sale for 10k sitting on 33s. And he has an 06 lj for 12..

I have a nice 1998 w/ 78k miles, auto tranny, built axles w/ lockers, a small lift and 33" mud terrains for sale for $6900. I built it to perform well offroad and run well down the street. If you're interested let me know and I'll send some pictures over.

Sorry.... I couldn't help myself.

If you're not looking to get too into tougher off roading, any Wrangler is more than capable for logging/mining roads right outta the box. With minimal lift and tires they're even more capable.

Solid industries bolt in 60 with disc brakes, alloy shafts, and arb. List Price on it is like 5500 bucks.

And what's list on a full traction long arm? I thought like 4k.

edit. 3k plus shocks. My bad.
