I need new seats. My drivers seat I've worn through the padding and fabric to the point I'm sitting on the metal bars sticking through the sides.

Most of the aftermarket seats I've sat in I hate, hard to get in and out of and not made for a hefty guy like myself (key point here).

I'm cheap, but am willing to shell out a reasonable amount of cash since a bad seat can ruin your day. Recline is a must, otherwise just needs to be comfy. Probably never use 5pt harnesses. Heat and all that other junk not necessary. I don't mind the factory seats, but I know there are much better options. When I wheel, I wheel hard, but lately I've been spending most of my miles on the street. Have any recommendations?

I've always leaned toward the Mastercraft Baja RS, but have hesitated since I've never sat in one, and they are about the top of the price range.

Any experience with this seat?

I have PRPs and really like them, I am a bit broad shouldered and would suggest getting the wider models if they offer them in the mastercraft. mel west had them and they were very comfy too.

My biggest problem with any of the aftermarket seats was finding ones that fit you properly not only width wise but shoulder/neck/back of head height - I know your thinking your not worried about 5 points and such, but why spend good money on seats that aren't the right measurements if you do end up needing them for safety someday? I've come to the conclusion I'd need suspension seats built to my specs when I get them eventually, and I think PRP is one of the companys that can do that.

That's what I run in mine. I'm 6' 225lbs and longer in the legs. The seats are comfy...comparable to justin's PRP seats...but they'er disproportionate as far as where the straps go. My shoulders sit above the top shoulder straps. For the price I'm happy though and they work.

Every one of those seats look really uncomfortable to me. I've worn the paint off my rocker and rock slider cause my foot is always hanging out the door (doors are off for about 90% of the miles I put on it, I have highway pegs on the door hinges that get used more than the doors). I don't like the hard doors cause I feel squished, need to spread out. The sides of the seat can't be too high or my leg will go to sleep in no time!
I guess that's part of the problem, I'm not looking for a race seat, just a nice upgrade to the factory ones.

I have the fixed back mastercrafts.

They're OK. I don't think they're any better than the corbeau seats that were in the Grey tj.

4wd hardware has a display of a bunch of seats in the showroom. You could stop by and "have a seat".

I don't have experience with the one's you posted in your link.

HOW do we get them to open a store in Allegheny Co. though? Not that I don't mind a nice drive through the countryside, but surely we have enough wheelers in and around Pittsburgh, to justify our OWN store by NOW. :017:

4wd isn't that far from me, 40 min or so. I've sat in their seats before, but they never seemed to have the one I was interested in on the floor. Been a while since I've been there though. Maybe they have a better selection now. Have to PM some one and see.

Elect someone that makes it worth a business to open a showroom?

Those EMPI seats are cheap and are comfortable - but are also made for midgets if your looking at safety!

I'm following you now Brad, you want something like foam base SteelHorse recliners then (assuming they still make them) - I have them in my old red YJ and love them for comfort when back road cruising or mild trail days. They just suck on hard offcambers cause the seat doesn't hold you any better that a stocker imho and of course don't have the benefits of a suspension seat design.

Can't find (on a quick search anyways) the Steel horse anymore, but from looking at these you'd swear Smittybilt bought the design;

The backs are a little lower than I like but they fit me good enough and my harness feels right in them. Can't beat the price for a suspension seat...

Your little knock on my seats got me thinking this morning so I looked at a couple other seats to compare...

The seat in the OP:

Wheeew....thank goodness. I was asking a friend of mine if I looked short today. :flipoff2:

Anyway, just some "tech" since I know someone was interested in the EMPI's. I think they're all a bit short personally.

Your EMPI or whatever seats are $250 pair right now, + $89 shipped. I have to go to Chippewa soon, so going to try to get over the 4wd and sit in a few first but that price is hard to beat.

I have a picture of my ass saved on my phone ready to distibute.

He's a cool dude. When I got those seats one of them had a nick in the stitching so I mentioned it to him and he sent me two new covers. So now when the seats get too trashed I can swap them out. Pretty cool.

You missunderstand, I wasn't knocking your or anyone elses seats specifically, I was simply saying the EMPI ones I sat in the head rest only come up to the bottom of my neck - and as for the others your correct, alot of those are made for midgets too - plus I'm taller in the torso than most & even the tallest off the shelf ones at I believe 34" are too short to place everything in the proper place to actually protect my body if needed.

If you just want something comfy & cool to sit in and could care less about how it protects and or cushions your body then all this means nothing.

No I understand what you're saying, I was just giving you a hard time.

Knowing how short my seats are, you honestly had me thinking the EMPI's were shorter than the rest. When I found they weren't, I got excited.

No big deal...:icon_pidu:

I definately agree with what you're saying though. Its stupid how short most of these seats are. I feel that way and I'm short in the torso so you're right, custom is the way to go if that's a concern to you or if you're a bigger doood. For me, as long as the lap belt is secure, I'm fine.
