Hey everyone, just joined, and figured I would tell a little about me and my jeep. I live in cranberry twp, and have a 2010 4 door Jk.
6" lift and 35" nitto trail grapplers on 20" rockstars. Smittybilt xrc front bumper, nerf bars, and DV8 rear bumper. Warn vr8000 winch. Bushwacker flat fenders. 37" trail grapplers and a 4.5" AEV lift are next! I look forward to a trail event.

i see that thing everywhere. i'm right down in bradfordwoods. so we're in cranberry a lot.

you might want to rethink that AEV lift though.

Welcome, I assume your taking the 6" lift off and replacing it will a 4.5"?

Sweet man. I am still throwing around the idea of keeping my springs, and shocks, and gradually replacing the parts with 5.5" rock krawler long arms. As money allows. What have you guys heard about the AEV 4.5"?

Welcome to PGH Offroad.
I look forward to seeing you at the next trail event (still in the planning).

I would say nice Jeep but all I see is a red X thanks to the firewall at work so I will have to check it out when I get home.

I've personally removed 2 aev lifts for tougher products. They don't hold up. They run all stock parts. Their trac bar brackets are so weak you can bend them with your hand. Their rear trac bar is a stock bar that has a bend put in it their drag link flip is a weak stock rhd drag link.

Their springs are decent.

if you're already flat fendered I'd want to drop to 3.5 or even 2.5 personally.

I'm a big fan of the rock krawler stuff. I've had bad experience with the bds jk stuff. I'm still not sold on the metal cloak stuff. A person I know in the industry has reported back some issues with the joints.

Thanks for the info on the AEV. From what you told me, it's out of the question now! Guess I'll go with the rock krawler kit. I had a zone 4" kit with 35's and wasn't happy with the distance between the tire and flat fender. So I added more lift. The way it sits now, will be perfect for 37's. I just have to replace all of the stock parts with the rock crawler components.
I literally just got back from wheeling behind the zelionople airport. There are some nice trails back there, and long deep creek crossings and mud holes. Me and a few friends trimmed all of the trails so we don't scratch our trucks. Anyone been back there on here?

I'd love to check that area out. I fly out of Zelienople airport so I am up that way all the time, didn't know there were trails. I guess that explains why I often see Jeeps around when I go up there to fly!

it's purely up to you. The last JK i worked on was flat fendered (bushwackers like yours, and xenons before that) on 3.5" AEV coils with 37's (true 37's too) and it sat nice.

this is jeepnick's. that's 3.5" with cut bushwackers i'm pretty sure (he had 4.5 and we lowered it to 3.5)

and if you like it as tall as it is, who am i to argue.

in my opinion though, you're way too tall. you're going to see a lot of negatives to that much lift without much positive.

your castor vs pinion can't be great. it's less stable both on and off road, harder on the driveline angles, etc.

you're gaining a few inches of breakover but really not enough to matter.

just my .02 it's a nice rig.

*edit* for reference

nick ran 40's on his jk with rk 5.5" coils... well in the back they were 5.5... front were coilovers

Yeah I like a tall jeep with a lot of clearance between the fender and tire. Everyone has a preference I guess. But I agree with you about pinion angles. That's why I am replacing my lift with the RK kit. It moves the rear axle back one inch. I also will be buying longer driveshafts. I am still curious as to why the AEV kit was lowered from 4.5-3.5?

because you get very little benefit from being taller.

lowering helps with the castor, helps it drive better, keeps your COG low so you can actually use it for more than just splashing through puddles, etc.

If it's just for looks, and it's what you like... hey it's your jeep. But i keep mine as low as possible with as much tire as possible. I actually prefer a 2.5" lift with 37's on a jk with flat fenders. I try and keep my setup 30% up travel and 70% down travel.

even my last trail rig, that i could have made as tall as i wanted. 3" of up travel and 11" of down.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/v/t1.0-9/526929_10151829973542786_1288260941_n.jpg?oh=07e34 9a2d702e801b269fd7d6b902cfc&oe=545BFFF9&__gda__=1415986868_3c6fbb140f0a2d7d6de95f25edb52db c

and even with only 3" of up travel, it still got into the fenders.... granted on 42's...

Respectivly, this is where preference comes in I guess. I had a 2" spacer kit already installed on my jeep when I got it. I installed my 35's and just wasn't happy with the way it sat. Once my 37's are on, I will be happy with the ride height.
pic is my jeep with 2" spacer kit and 35's.

2002 wranglerX- you talked me into removing my 2" spacers on top of my coil springs, and staying with my zone 4" kit for now. My ride was crap, and driveshafts were clicking. Km going to order new shocks, fox reservoirs, or bilstein reservoirs. Which do you suggest, and why? Thanks man for changing my mind.

you'd just scrape over the JK's flat belly.

it's your rig. if you like it tall leave it tall.

as far as shocks go. I'm a fan of shocks that can be revalved. you don't need reservoirs either. you're not pre-running, you don't need the extra room and fluid.

Literally just got done removing my spacers. No more clicking and harsh ride. Thanks for the advice. What you said about rezzys makes sense, so how about a set of fox 2.0 shocks?

I noticed when I jacked one side of the jeep up to remove the coil on the other side, the zone 4" shocks were maxed out, and I had to unbolt the bottom of the shock to remove the spacers. Should I order 4-6" fox shocks so I don't run out of shock travel when flexing?

Once you get your 37s and get the bumps to where the tires aren't into the fenders. Pull the droop side lower shock bolt out and flex it till the coil begins to unseat. That's your max extended length.

Then go to the side that's sitting on the bump stop. Measure the shock length. That's min compressed length.

Choose your shock length from there.

thank you sir.
went wheeling sat night. Decided to go thru a mud hole in 2 wheel drive kinda fast. When I came to the end of the puddle, the motor shut off. When I try to start it, it makes a single "click" noise but doesn't even attempt to turn over. The water wasn't even over my tires. Getting her towed to the shop tomorrow. Fingers crossed for not being hydro locked. Lesson learned...do not put a cold air intake on if you offroad in mud.

Welcome from the West End of PGH.
I am running a Rock Krawler kit on my TJ. Hopefully I can get my jeep fixed up and will have it out at 4wd in columbiana at end of sept
