So my luck just keeps getting better all the time. I just installed a new Carolina driveshaft conversion in the front of the wj. And in doin so it presented a new problem, the tcase is shot. Sound like the chain is skipping teeth and the clutches are chattering. I topped it off with the proper fluid hoping to resolve the issue, but of course not.

Im shopping around for a 242hd outa a 4.7 grand. But they're proving to difficult to find and expensive. Anyone know of one?? Or have any tips from anyone who's done it themselves?
ive done the research and it seems like a straight forward swap if I can get the right case.

How hard is it to rebuild the current case?

I don't think it hard, but not worth the money. The rebuild kit I found is $550, a 242 is cheaper and better.

Ok, got a case on order. Pit-mon auto parts has a 86xxx mile case and rear driveshaft for 375. Theyll pull it and deliver it to the Carrick store. I managed to find a few cheaper ones, but they had more miles and I woulda had to pull them myself...with the current temps, I'll let them do it for a few more bucks.
After being questioned by the parts desk guy for a few minuites about incompatibility of the swap, why don't they just sell you the part and be done with it. If someone comes in and knows exactly what they want then just sell it to them.

Naturally, I CAN'T find the post where he mentioned it, but I'm getting the headers off this Jeep, so I KNOW it exists. Maybe the t-case was already claimed/gone. :017:

The headers are from a ZJ.

so pif-mon kinda screwed me. the rusty pos driveshaft they gave me isn't even close and the t-case is missing half the mounting studs and looks like its been sitting in the mud for awhile.
and surprise surprise, the yard is open on the weekends so i can swap this stuff out.

Sethman, this is a bolt in swap. I got mine from LKQ. If your front drive shaft uses CVs you will need the yoke from your old one. It swaps right out. Other than its pretty simple. You need to mount your 4wd cable on a different slot as well. There is a really good write up on the web somewhere.

The upper passenger side transfer case to transmission nut was a S.O.B, I used a stubby wrench and a come along to break it free. I never switched out the interior piece I had read it was a PITA, so I just skipped that part. Did this about 2 years ago, no issues. Knock on wood.

I've read the write ups and it's just like you're saying. I plan to unbolt the trans crossmember to hopefully make the bolts easier to access.
My front axle was just swapped to a traditional shaft, I tossed the double rezeppa garbage.

I doubt rc parts would fit. They'd probally be to long.

And dave, I went to Dawson wreckers yesterday and got everything for a good deal plus a few extras. So I'm set now

Well here's a update, I finally got around to doing the swap tonight.

After reading the various swap breads the one thing that I never understood is why nobody haven't dropped the trans down. After pissing with the bottom bolts and getting frustrated with the one click shit, I decided to remove the trans crossmember. I put a floor jack under the trans and lowered it about eight inches, and removed the trans mount bracket. Doing this gave me all the room I needed and made it so I could get a air ratchet on.
The new trans output seal I got and was told was the right one wasn't even close. It looked to be in decent condition so I left it be. Everything went smoothly putting the 242 in.
I also got the jumper wire for the position light. None of the threads gave a good indication of where the harness end was. After some searching I discovered its on the passenger side top, about the middle. Kinda tough to reach but it's there.

No pictures, I always forget to take them when I'm in a grease monkey state of mind.
