Well after spinning 810* and bouncing around like a pinball on the ice yesterday going down a hill. (used my winch more times intown yesterday than any time on trail)
Its time for new tires my MT2 are still good atleast another summer so I'll grab some new rims to slap them on or some winter rims for the new tires, but recommendation time...

I had some treadwright AT KO clones a while back that lasted but, have to get them shipped then mounted.
I was thinking either the treadwright warden (AT KO clone) $129 or the claw which looks like a MT2 with sipping $139 both in 265/75r16 with free shipp
Or a goodyear duratrac $183 each plus $126 shipping from tirerack.

Decisions, decisions. Anybody got a better source local know there is a retread place on the northside? or coupon code? :slywink:

What size you looking for? Have you given any thoughts on GoodYear Authority tires?

I run em on my TJ and they did quite well yesterday on black ice. My rear would slip just a bit when downshifting (expected) but other than that they stuck to the road. They are winter rated on certain sizes (mine are 31" and winter rated). What I like about em is that their tread is very similar to a mud terrain but are classified as an A/T.

I get 10% discount on walmart purchases and can help out if interested.

I wouldn't bother with treadwright tires anymore. It seems their CS took a dump once they moved their location to Texas or wherever they are now. Their price is cheap until you add shipping and then there is the weight of the tire that just hogs gas. My 31" goodyears are so light compared to my small 235 treadwright crawler tires. Acceleration and gas mileage improved ALOT once switching back to standard tires. I love my treadwright guard dogs (265/75/16 that are 6 years old and 26k miles, 80% tread) but I won't be buying them again mainly due to their weight.

and FYI, i'm selling the 265/75 guard dogs to downsize to a smaller tire for the time being. Not sure if that's your size or if you are interested.

I have the Duratrac on both mine and wife's DD. They don't seem to get much talk but I liked the first set on her FJ enough that I put them on my Tundra when it needed tires. The size I bought for the FJ were E rated tires, but even so, they aren't that harsh on a small vehicle and they're wearing like iron. I've got 40k on them and they look like they'll do another 10+ before hitting the bars.

The Tundra set is newer but seem to be wearing well on a larger vehicle. I'm maybe 10k into the set and they're still at least 3/4 which is on track to be the longest wearing set I've had on a truck with the exception of my Falken's, that I threw out at half tread because I coudn't take their suck any longer.

The FJ, they started cupping a bit after 35-40k and vibe at some speeds. They've held balance since new.

The tundra did not have a great balance from day 1, took a good bit of weight. Have not started to cup yet.

There are a ton of good tires out there but I'm pretty happy with the Duratrac for now.

Nice to hear the duratracs are lasting. I just bought a set of BFG ATs for my lifted 1st gen tundra. I wanted duratracs but heard they wear fast. Keep us posted.

They're wearing much faster on my Tundra but not had them long enough to say. But the E rated on the light SUV are lasting GREAT.

what about a stud gun for your current tires?

I've got almost 40k on my duratrac's, still around 7/32 tread on them. These tires are a tank in the snow but ride as soft as a cinder block.

I have been buying tires from a guy on CL in Beaver County. He has great prices and is a good guy. He's putting a new set of 265-75R16 10 ply E rated AT's on my Silverado today. $600 (mounted balanced taxes and all in this price!) They are a Hercules tire. They look great and have tons of sipping.

I would avoid Cooper ATP's. Great traction but as they wear they are so loud in my truck @ 45mph I can't hear the radio.

I may try those terra tracs on my work truck when it's due, these long trails it came with factory absolutely blow. The place we get our tires carries hercules...

If I got with the the Goodyear Authorities it would be $632 with muddeprived discount.
If I got with Highlanders CL guy for $600. But they seem to have bad reviews.
Could go with the duratracs at walmart for $705.
Could go for the treadwrite BFG ATKO clones for $496 (they have free shipping now, but would need mounting.)
The Just need new rims to through them on.

I ended up putting a set of the new BFG ATs on my land cruiser for the trip from Oregon to KOH and back home to PGH. They did great in the desert and on the roads I drove on.

Unfortunately the size I run (285/75r16) is only available in an E load range which makes them heavier and causes a stiffer ride than a tire better suited to the actual weight of a large SUV. Adjusting the air pressure helped with the latter. I will update after running them in snow and ice.

I just picked up new Cooper ATP's for my mall crawler XK, but I gotta give some props to Discount Tire Direct (http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/home.do?). It was my first ever on-line tire purchase, and not only were they cheaper than EVERYBODY, but I got free shipping! Their customer service double-checked with me right AFTER the purchase, just to make sure I had the right size, load-rating, etc. for my vehicle, and were NOT condescending about it.

They have three nationwide warehouses, and one of them is RIGHT across the border in OH. I ordered my tires on a Wednesday night - they were at my doorstep Friday morning!!! :023:

I'm impressed with my BFG KO2's so far with about 1500 miles on them. They are much better in the winter than the AT3's I run on my work truck. 2011 and 2012 Ram 1500's.

Hope you have better luck with them than I did. I can't wait to get rid of mine. They are so loud you cant think in my truck. Traction, wear, they were good tires, but after getting a few miles on them they hum so bad, they are worse than any MT I've ever run

While we are on the subject, I was sent 2 of the old style bfg at 285/75r16 E load range. They are new with stickers on them. I can send them back or will sell them to someone on here for what I have in them, $200 each.

On my "new" POS ford truck I needed some tires and tried to find the cheapest decent tire I could. Ended up getting the old school Goodyear Wrangler Radials, $350 total for 4 235/75-15 mounted. Made in USA too! I have been thoroughly impressed with these plain jane all seasons, good amount of siping and I've gone more places in 2wd than I would have thought possible.

11K on mine so far. Can't say enough good things about them. They show hardly any wear.

I walk to work each day, as my office is 30' away. Some days I don't drive at all, and when I do, it's mostly short hops around the South Hills. I have a monthly round-trip of 56 miles - I left Allegheny Co. twice last year - once to Buffalo and once to Lancaster, and my Flowmaster Super 44 is louder at highway speed than any tire will ever be. Boston Acoustic sound system covers everything else. :040:

The Coopers will be better in rain & snow (like this morning) than these Shi - I mean, "Nittos," will ever be, because in an emergency, snow is NOT an excuse in my line of work.

I hate new tires, they cost too much. I've had good luck with Goodyear silent armor. They changed the name recently. They have Kevlar in them, Aventures I think.
