Just got my replacement 5100's and need to coat em with something to prevent them from becoming a rusty rod of crap, which my old ones did in just four years. What's something I can use that's found locally?

My fluid film order won't be here till the end of the month and I can't wait that long. My jeep rides like shit and wobbles off the road at times.

Just four years, and 12-some thousand miles:

A trans fluid coating works really well, especially if it's used oil so it's spreads easier.

The Auto Zone on 19 in Wexford has spray cans of Fluid Film if you need something to hold you over. It's in the spray lube area with Liquid Wrench, WD40, etc.. I just bought some a couple months ago.

A few layers of clear coat might help

!@#@ I just left work and wish I read this before hand. I don't live there anymore since I bought the house in Wampum but I still work up near there. Maybe the new Autozone in Chippewa will have it. I'll check em out tmw. If not then I'm spray em with trans/oil.

I thought about this but it's just too cold to paint anything on them.

Just shoot some wd40 or similar on them. When fluid film comes spray that on them.

I checked Mcmaster and autozone online and it's not showing up. Strange.

edit: never mind, found it on mcmaster. Part number 12055K74

Found it at autozone. $12 a can is nuts but better than nothing.

Seems like it's good stuff. Reminds me of Pam cooking spray. Smells good too. I almost tasted it.
