I am moving out of my 33 x 10.50-15's on my 4" TJ and into some 33 x 12.50-15's. I had the pizza cutters on cuz I didn't want to spring for extended flares at the time I lifted. I bought a set of Swamper Trxus MT's and need some valuable input on wheels, particularly Backspacing. I want to widen the stance but I don't want it to look ridiculous. My original Canyons sit close but they have major backspacing, like 5.5". Someone told me I could use the Canyons with wheel spacers, but I'd rather avoid that. Alot of the wheels I have been shopping for have around 3-3 5/8" backspacing which I think will make the tires stick out too far. I'm not sure I want black steel wheels but I'm starting to realize why so many people run them, they seem to have the right backspacing, more like 4 or 4.5". I would prefer some polished alum. or maybe chrome steel wheels to go along with my stainless bumpers. How much backspacing would keep me tighter in the wheel wells, but not cause clearance problems and rubbing? I would appreciate any input as I want to get this done soon. Thanks leonw

You probably want to go with something in the 3.75 to 4 inch range. I am running the 3.75" BS on my 33x12.5x15 TrXuS M/Ts and it is perfect.

Hope that helps!

I can't tell by the pic, specifically what wheels are you running? Do you think I could go 4" safely? I wouldn't think there would be much difference between 3.5 and 4, but I tried some with 3.5 BS and they really stuck out far, too far I thought, even for 6" flares. How are you liking the Trxus?

i have heard of people running 33x12.5's with 4.5" of backspacing...that's about the absolute max you can go and you'll need washers behind your front steering stops to prevent rubbing. so i guess if you want your wheels tucked in as much as possible between 4 and 4.5 is ideal.
i myself, am going with 3.75" when the time comes in order to widen the jeep's stance a little.

You can get away with the 4" BS, but I found the 3.75 to be PERFECT with the Warn 6" F;ares. I have the AR 767s, but I will probably be switching over to an aluminum wheel by the end of Spring.

The TrXus... Well, they have both good and bad points. They are heavy, a pain in the butt to balance, and wear fairly quick in my opinion.

Maybe this pic will help a little more.

Sorry, but I don't have any pics from head on with no flexing. I know that deapee or LardAthens may have one or two with my Jeep of Dave's Jeep with this set-up.

i know some guys run flares, but i'm on 37x12.50's with no flares and have never had a problem with the police . . . . .

i'd say 3.75 to 4" as well

Might depend on where you live. I live in N. Strabane / Peters area and had my ZJ pulled over for unconvered off road lights on the roof so I'm playing it safe. They were picking on my tires too. I had some muds that stuck out slightly. Meanwhile, people can run around in that Liberty renegade with the unconvered lights on the roof.

Has anyone had any clearance issues with 4" BS?

there's not much difference between the 3.75 and the 4", either way i think you'll be fine.
